Welcome, New Teachers!

Kristen Artz '11

I am from Clayton. I attended California State University, Chico where I majored in geology with an emphasis in environmental and sustainable studies. I came to Carondelet because in my senior year of college I realized I wanted to teach and there is no better place to begin my teaching career than my alma mater!

Anthony Bonanno

I graduated from De La Salle in 2001. I attended Cal Poly and Columbia College where I received a general studies degree with a minor in mathematics/science. I then received my mathematics credential from St. Mary's College of California. I chose to teach at Carondelet because of the wonderful experience I had when I was at De La Salle. My hope is to give the young women of Carondelet the same lasting memories and empower them to be positive role models in everything they do.

Taylor Chavez '10

graduated from Carondelet in 2010. I then attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and received my Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 2014. I received my Master's degree in mechanical engineering in 2015. As a young female in the STEM field, I hope to empower young women facing adversity along their desired career path.

Andrew Kjera

I attended the California College of the Arts where I got my B.F.A. in printmaking. I then attended the San Francisco Art Institute to get my M.F.A. in conceptual art. I am very happy to have the chance to share my knowledge and experience with the students at Carondelet.
Joan Larsson

I went to Bishop O'Dowd, then UC Davis where I majored in linguistics, then to Loyola University Maryland for a Masters in Education. I chose to come to Carondelet because I want to empower young women to find their full potential.  I also appreciate how this institution cares for the whole student, rather than simply her test score or GPA.  Carondelet inspires confident, respectful, and genuine young women.

Dean Papalia

I attended Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C., and received a Bachelor's  degree in business administration. I chose to come to Carondelet because it is well reputed school that many of my family members have attended in the past and are still attending now. As a faithful Catholic, I am also here to help students look to their faith for guidance.

Kristy Schow

I attended UC Santa Barbara for my B.A. in sociology with a minor in sports management as well as Santa Clara University for my M.A. in teaching and single subject teaching credential. I chose to come to Carondelet because I was drawn to the school's vision which centers around teaching to the whole person, hearts and bodies as well as the mind. I am excited to be a part of a community that empowers young women everyday to be leaders of this world, and for the opportunity to teach such spirited and inspiring students.

Tiz Woo

I went to UCLA. My major was English with a specialization in American Studies, and my minor was business administration. I chose to come to Carondelet because I had extensively substituted here and fell in love with the atmosphere. The students and staff are warm and welcoming. Additionally, my faith is important to me, so I feel blessed to be teaching English at a Catholic school.

Stellar Student Summer Experiences

Joanne Magano '17

"Over the summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at the Contra Costa County Public Defender's Office. As attorney support, I shadowed a criminal defense lawyer and got a firsthand look at how the judicial system works. I gained insight into the world of criminal defense by sitting in on interviews with defendants and their families, observing court proceedings, writing up subpoenas, contacting school districts for juvenile cases, and organizing and filing case notes. This experience made me appreciate the hard work and dedication public defenders put into helping people who cannot afford legal representation. With a better understanding of what a lawyer does, this internship will definitely help me if I decide to pursue a degree and a career in law."

Sophia Colello '17

This summer, Sophia had a rare opportunity to live out her dream as an aspiring archaeologist. She took advantage of an opening for a "highly qualified high school student" to work alongside undergraduate and graduate students from around the world at an archaeological dig in Greece led by world-class archaeologists. Sophia spent four weeks in the ancient town of Pylos, located in the Peloponnese, where she excavated 3500-year-old artifacts from the Mycenaean period. She worked at the dig site six days a week, eight hours a day, and in the evenings attended lectures detailing the history of the region, archaeological theory and artifact analysis. Each student also had the opportunity to work in the labs analyzing and classifying the artifacts uncovered at the site while working with a variety of specialists, including ceramic analysts, zooarchaeologists and palaeoethnobotanists. One of the high points of the trip was when the President of Greece visited the site while she was excavating. It truly was an incredible summer!

We have received several submissions from students who had some amazing adventures over the summer. To see all of their incredible stories visit the Summer Experiences 2016 page on our website.

Also, it's not too late to submit your awesome summer experience! If you had a unique experience let us know by completing this online form. Submit a short article (150 words or less) and one photo to tell us about the cool things they did this summer. We will continue to feature these stories on our website, through e-news and on social media. It's one more way for us to celebrate our students' success!
