In celebration of the 2nd week of Advent, students and faculty gathered in the Inner Court before lunch to pray for peace and sing "O come, O come, Emmanuel". Students were also given a simple piece of twine which they tied around the wrist of the person sitting next to them while wishing them peace and then praying together the Prayer of Saint Francis.

Lord, make us instruments of your peace:
where there is hatred, let us sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not
so much seek, to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned
and it is in dying that we are
born to eternal life.

-Saint Francis

How can you create more peace in your life as you

prepare for Jesus this Advent?

God of Love, teach us peace. We need your guidance if we are to know your special peace.  It must start in our own hearts. We welcome the quiet and peacefulness of Advent and ask you to help us let go of the frantic shopping and stress we often feel before finals and Christmas.  Teach us to carry the peacefulness of this season into every day of our lives so that we may truly celebrate your rebirth within us.

Amen

Please join over 150 students in Chorus, Chorale, Concert Choir, Concert and Jazz Band at our annual Christmas Concert THIS Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the De La Salle Hofmann Center

Admission is complimentary, but we welcome your donations which will help support the 2014 Choir trip to perform at the Heritage Music Festival in Anaheim.

Last year the 50 vocalists who competed at the festival earned a GOLD rating (highest rating)!  In addition, the choir received the Spirit of Anaheim Award which was presented to only one school in the competition.  This award was presented to the school that best represents the community that they come from, and was given to our students for their excellent attitude and overall 'sportsmanship.'

CCCClass of 2014 -- Financial Aid Night TONIGHT

Parents and guardians of seniors are cordially invited to attend our annual Financial Aid Night tonight  (Dec. 10) at 7:00 p.m. in the Garaventa Center.  Norman Caito, Director of Financial Aid at the University of San Francisco, will discuss all types of financial aid including the FAFSA and the Cal Grant program.  Students are welcome to attend as well.

This is the only session that covers ways to pay for college.

On December 11 and 12, Carondelet will host guest speaker Jeff Steinberg, founder of the organization Sojourn to the Past. All CHS students will attend the presentation.

The purpose of Mr. Steinberg's presentation is to provide background on the Civil Rights Movement, and to make available to our students the opportunity to participate in a 10-day journey through the deep south that will take place during the upcoming Easter break. Regardless of whether students decide to make the trip or not, Mr. Steinberg's presentation should provide value to all students. Social Studies and Religious Studies Department faculty will have follow up discussions with the students the day after the presentation.
