With only two weeks left in our Fall Food Drive for the Monument Crisis center, we still need YOUR help as the barrels are looking a bit bare.

What can you do?

Bring in cans, boxes or bags of food and add them to the barrels in the Inner Court.

While all food items are appreciated, here is a list of the "Most Wanted" food items which include tuna, peanut butter, cereal and canned meats.

So, the next time you're at the grocery store, please consider picking up some extra items to donate to the Monument Crisis Center and our local community.  The families you're helping may never have the opportunity to thank you personally, but please know that your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Want to know more about the Monument Crisis Center and the families it serves, watch this short video.

spotlightStudent Spotlight - Jackie Bueno

This summer, after a highly competitive application process, Jackie Bueno '14 was selected as a participant of the 2013 Accounting Career Awareness Residency (ACAP) program at UC Berkeley.

"At this program, I received the opportunity to reside in the UC Berkeley Freshman dorms for six whole days. In addition, I learned introductory concepts to accounting and finance, wrote and pitched a business plan about a drink I needed to create with a team I was assigned to, and networked with young interns from highly influential corporations. Many of these businesses specialize in various aspects of accounting such as auditing, consulting, and taxation. I also visited companies such as Google, Facebook, and the big four accounting firms in San Francisco. At these offices, I networked with various accountants, auditors and even interns who gave us their advice in possibly majoring in Business or pursuing a career in Business. Overall, my experience was highly noteworthy. I encourage anyone who is interested in Business to attend a camp like this in order to obtain a better feel about how business truly works, on a personal and professional level."

attireWelcome Dance Attire

Carondelet and De La Salle provide the Welcome Dance so that students can gather in a Catholic school setting that requires different behavior and dress than a function in a private home or public venue. We set standards of conduct and dress to give our young women a chance to have a place to gather with their friends that is wholesome and safe.

The dress for this dance is crew neck short sleeve t-shirts with the class saying, or with an approved (by the Deans) t-shirt.  Denim jeans of any color can be worn as long as they are below the knees or longer.  The senior class will have the privilege of choosing to wear jeans below the knee or basketball shorts.

If these guidelines or not followed, your daughter will not be permitted to enter the dance.

Amy also played semi-pro soccer for the Fort Collins Force and the Sacramento Storm from 1999-2004.

cccClass of 2014 -- College Counseling

As you can imagine, September is very busy in the College and Career Center with individual appointments, group meetings, recommendation packet workshops, college rep visits, and lots of questions. Seniors have been informed that September 25 is the deadline to give rec packets to teachers and advisors for all applications that are due before Christmas.

We have held five workshops so far and have two additional workshops scheduled this week to help seniors put together their packets. Because letters of recommendation can play a significant role in the application process, it is important that students provide complete information and give recommenders sufficient time to write their letters. Last year our teachers and advisors submitted hundreds of recommendations to colleges on behalf of the senior class.

One way that parents can help is by completing the Parent Statement on the Teacher Rec Survey on Naviance. This is your opportunity to "brag" about you daughter and her gifts.  Your insights can help teachers and advisors as they write their recommendations.  You can find a link to Naviance on the Student section of the CHS website and through this link

During the first semester your sophomore daughter will be participating in a one-day Corazon Retreat at the Diocesan Youth Retreat Center in Lafayette.  The theme of the retreat is "Women of Heart" which explores the story and mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph from their beginning in 1650 in LePuy, France and how our young women are invited to be "women of heart" today!

Each Sophomore Religion class, along with their Religious Studies teacher, will travel by bus on the designated Tuesday to the Retreat Center.  You are encouraged to check in with your daughter about her particular date and support her with your prayers.  She will be bringing home a Permission Form that you need to complete.  Because of the nature of this retreat day, it is not necessary that she bring her back pack or computer.  However, she will need to bring her lunch and something to drink, along with a blanket or beach towel for the meditation.  We provide all the other materials needed for the retreat.

For more information follow this link to the Parents' page of the CHS website.

Know how much we appreciate your support!   If you have any questions, give me a call at 925 686-5353 x179
