August 14, 2013

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,
With today being the first day of school, I want to take a few minutes to welcome our newest families to our community and welcome back the rest of you.  Hopefully the summer gave you the opportunity to relax and you now feel ready to be part of another great year at Carondelet.  Remember, YOU (our students and families) are a huge part of what makes Carondelet a community that supports, challenges and encourages our students and faculty/staff/administration. Catholic education is alive and well thanks to all of you making the sacrifices to allow your daughter to attend Carondelet.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank all of the parents who have already gotten a jump start on their PIP hours and been volunteering.  The Welcome BBQ could not have been a success without you!
Thank you for your continuing prayers and good wishes.  I look forward to a blessed year with you and your daughters at Carondelet.

Janis Allocco is new to our Math & Science Department, but not new to education.  Janis has been a coach, a teacher and a principal, most recently at St. Philip Neri in Alameda.  She has a MA in Education, BA in Liberal and Civic Studies and her Administrative credential from St. Mary's College in Moraga.  Janis has taught science at St. Mary of Immaculate Conception in Walnut Creek and originally coached for CHS in volleyball. Welcome back Janis!

Kristin Cranmer joins our College and Career Center as the new Counseling Assistant. Kristin recently graduated with her MA in counseling with an emphasis in school counseling from St. Mary's College in Moraga. She has also worked in public schools as a guidance counselor intern.  She has a Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential and a BS in Human Development from UC Davis.  Kristin's masters project was on "School Intervention Promoting Emotional Awareness to Technologically-Based Adolescents."  She makes a great addition to the College & Career Center!

Stephanie Davis, a recent transplant from the East Coast, is our new Athletic Trainer.  She has worked in high schools and a physical therapy clinic in Massachusetts, as well as at MIT as a trainer. She has a MA in Counseling - Sports Psychology from Boston University and a BS in Health Sciences from University of Central Florida.

Cristell Hoover is joining our HPERD Department to teach Sports Medicine. Cristell has worked at CHS as a substitute teacher in the HPERD department as well as other high schools in the area. She has a MA in Kinesiology and BA in Health and Human Performance from St. Mary's College in Moraga.  She works as a Physical Therapist aide at a local clinic and brings her clinician skills to practice.

Valerie Prucnal, an experienced teacher with 15 years' experience, joins our Math and Science Departments.  She has a MA in Education Administration from Saint Xavier University and MA in Teaching and Learning from DePaul University.  She also has a BS in Chemistry and BA in History, both Cum Laude, from Saint Xavier University.  We are happy to have her join our faculty in a permanent capacity after having been with us as a substitute for a few years.

Lesley Schooler '96 is returning to Carondelet; however, this time as a teacher in the Math Department. Lesley has been teaching mathematics at St. Elizabeth High School in Oakland for a number of years.  She has a MA in Educational Leadership and a BS in Economics from St. Mary's College in Moraga.  Lesley has close ties to CHS and is married to a current faculty member, Michael Schooler.

Gaeby Todesco '07, also an alum of Carondelet, has her credential from Cal Poly and a BA in History. Gaeby previously had a long term sub position here last fall and we're now happy to have her on board in full-time capacity.   Welcome back Gaeby!

This past Sunday, the Class of 2017 and their families spent the afternoon on campus for an introduction to the Sisterhood of Carondelet, a rally and Frosh Welcome BBQ.  The parent/student rally included performances from Cheer and Dance, a few competitions between the frosh and their parents and - of course - a very loud "roll call" practice.  The afternoon ended with a BBQ, giving families time to enjoy the nice weather, catch up with friends and meet new people.
To all of our new families, Welcome to Carondelet.
Thank you to ASB, Cheer and Dance, and our Peer Counselors for making "fun on the green" and the rally fun, memorable and welcoming - your school spirit and enthusiasm are a great start to the 2013-2014 school year.  Also, thank you to the Parent Association and all the volunteers for organizing the tasty BBQ.

BTSNBack to School Night

Carondelet faculty and staff would like to invite all our parents to our Back to School Night - Thursday, September 5 at 6:30 p.m.  The evening begins in the Garaventa Center. (Remember that traffic/parking can be difficult on this night, so please plan accordingly.)

Student directories will be distributed during 4 period at Back to School Night.  (Only families who agreed to have their address published will receive a directory.)

Tip!  Be sure to have a completed schedule so that you know where to go AND if you need to go to a class at DLS, wear comfortable shoes as you will have to walk quickly.
