trashedYOU Helped Us Trash Malaria!

What a successful project!  Just as we discussed at the Fontbonne Forum, success comes when we overcome obstacles and move toward a goal. Our goal for the Trashing Malaria Project was to have 100% participation and raise enough money to purchase 100 nets and save 100 lives. In working toward this goal, everyone here at Carondelet participated in some way - big or small.

In all our hard work to educate the public about the most devastating global health issue of our day, we are excited to report that we raised $4000, which is enabling us to purchase 400 bed nets and save at least 400 lives!

Thank YOU, Carondelet Community, for giving so much of your time, talents, money and most of all, heart!

franceA Whirlwind Trip to France

37 students from Carondelet and De La Salle spent Easter break touring France with their teachers, Anne Bossert, Karen Denne, and Jenni and David Mammola.

The group started in Paris and then traveled throughout the south west and east of France, seeing a total of 11 cities, including Bordeaux, Sarlat-la-Canéda, Carcassonne, Arles, Le Puy, Lyon and Nice.  A highlight of the trip was visiting Le Puy-en-Velay, home of the first Sisters of St. Joseph.

For these students of French, it was a wonderful way to experience the French language and culture first-hand. Everyone had a wonderful time, and we are already planning the next trip!

robotStudents Compete in Robotics Competition!

The DLS/CHS Robotics team competed at the Sacramento Regional Robotics Competition at UC Davis on March 21-23, 2013. The team finished in 10th place out of 53 teams and competed in the quarter finals rounds. Pictured are Carondelet team members  Ella Dzenitis '14, Ciara Goetze '15, Caroline Ray '15 and Mrs. Beth Dzenitis (Team Mentor).

This year's challenge was to build a robot that shot frisbees into various scoring slots and then hang from a tower before the match ended. Robots can score points in an "autonomous" mode and in a remote control mode. Ella Dzenitis completed all of the programming to allow the robot to operate on its own during the autonomous phase of the competition and the DLS/CHS team scored the highest in years in this mode. Ciara Goetze and Caroline Ray worked on building the frisbee loader and shooter.  The 12 CHS/DLS team members design the robot and then build it using standard parts and student made parts.

Way to go ladies!
