"Dear friends, may no adversity paralyze you. Be afraid neither of the world, nor of the future, nor of your weakness. The Lord has allowed you to live in this moment of history so that, by your faith, his name will continue to resound throughout the world."-Pope Benedict XVI, World Youth Day 2011.

Pope Benedict XVI announced Monday that he would resign on February 28 because he is simply too infirm to carry on - the first pontiff to do so in nearly 600 years.

This is an historic and hopeful moment for our Church and the world.  In the spirit of Vatican Council II that called us to renewal ("aggiornamento"), our Pope has opened the windows again.  Having the wisdom to observe the signs of the times he is entrusting the future of our Church to the Holy Spirit.
This decision sets the stage for a conclave at the Vatican to elect a new pope before the end of March.

Let us pray for the Holy Spirit's wisdom and guidance in this historic moment.

retreatMothers and Daughters and the Angels in our Lives

On Sunday, February 10 Carondelet held its eleventh annual Mother/Daughter Retreat in the Garaventa Center---and over one hundred alums, mothers, daughters, grandmothers and aunts participated!

The retreat focused on the role of angels in our lives, especially those who are nearest and dearest to us, our mothers and our daughters.  There were various ice breaker activities, prayer/meditation, and talks from several mothers and daughters, brunch and a closing Mass in which participants exchanged love letters and an angel blessing with each other.

One evaluation summarized it best of all:  "I can't wait for next year's retreat!"  We hope to see you there!

During the week of February 25 all freshmen will meet with the College Counselors in the computer lab. Sessions have been scheduled through Religious Studies classes. In the sessions, freshmen will be introduced to Naviance, our secure web-based college and career search resource and will begin a Myers-Briggs type inventory assessment called Do What You Are (DWYA).  Personality exploration (Who am I?) is the first phase of Carondelet's four-year college counseling program.

Parents/Guardians, please refer to the pink flyer that was given to all freshmen which contains the exact schedule and more detailed information about the session and Naviance. Each freshman will have an assignment to complete based on her DWYA results.
