Catholic Schools Week - Raise the Standards
This week Carondelet joins with Catholic schools across the United States to celebrate Catholic Schools Week - Raise the Standards. Catholic Schools Week is an annual celebration of the values-centered, faith-driven education that students receive in Catholic schools. What sets Catholic Schools apart from other schools?
- Faith is nourished and students deepen their relationship with God.
- Academics are held to a very high standard.
- Service is taught both as an expression of faith and good citizenship.
This year's theme "Raise the Standards" celebrates the constant attention Catholic educators pay to increasing the learning and growth in faith of all students. The theme follows on the launch of a new initiative, the "National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools," to ensure consistent high standards at Catholic schools across the country. Catholic educators are also participating in a nationwide education initiative for all schools called the Common Core Catholic Identity Initiative.
Catholic Schools Week reminds us that we are part of something bigger than just our school. We are part of the universal Catholic Church and a network of Catholic schools all over the world. Thank YOU For Choosing Catholic Education!

Technology in the Classroom

While we all know technology integration is alive at Carondelet, this past Wednesday, January 23 the Contra Costa Times educational reporter visited Mr. Miller's AP U.S. History class to report on how the class uses technology in a debate. Students facilitated the debate using a "back channel" blog where some of the participants uploaded arguments and rebuttals to their teammates who were orally debating. This results in a collaborative and dynamic classroom. To read the article published in the Contra Costa Times, follow this link.

Distracted Driving
Just a reminder: while driving, drivers of ANY age may not text on their cell phones and any driver under the age of 19 may not use a cell phone (even with a hands-free device).
Did you know: Sending or receiving a text takes a driver's eyes from the road for an average of 4.6 seconds, the equivalent-at 55 mph-of driving the length of an entire football field, blind.
