Thinking Aloud....

    Dream Theater

"Dream Theater" originated in its current psychological form in Europe with people like Jacob Moreno in the "psychodrama" movement. Of course, all sorts of "dream enactment" had been carried out in indigenous cultures since always...

Probably the most studied & written about dream drama culture is the Iroquois Federation.  The yearly "ondinnonk" festival held throughout the Mohawk Valley in what is now up-state New York was a combination of dream drama & "guessing game"/ gambling game. Can the players discern what someone dreamed by looking at the "false face" the dreamer carved into a living tree to depict the dream's primary energy, along with the dance that the dreamer executes while wearing the mask.

(Robert Moss has written a very interesting book: Dreamways of the Iroquois: Honoring the Secret Wishes of the Soul, Destiny Books, 2004)

Of course, the vast majority of early Egyptian & Mesopotamian early ritual is clearly dream inspired, and most shamanic ritual healing performances are enactments of the shaman's own dreams...

Dream theater, psychodrama, role playing, Gestalt work, all help embody the dream. For those of us who sometimes think the body exists just to carry the brain around, getting up off the chair and acting out the dream can be exhilarating.

Notice
I've been contacted by Roberta Gannon saying three people who met at the San Damiano Retreat Center Dream Workshop (Danville, CA)  (which Jeremy has facilitated every year for nearly two decades) tried to start a dream group in Berkeley, CA but are having trouble finding people. If you are interested or know of someone who is, please contact Roberta at RLGannon@pacbell.net

Do you want to be a Teaching Associate at San Damiano Retreat Center Workshop June 13-15 in Danville, CA ?

Even if you live out of state you can still do this, since housing and meals will be available at the Retreat Center.

Being a TA at this Workshop will expand your experience of working with small groups; if you are an MIPD student it will fulfill the Practicum #1: Working with Small Groups requirement. If you don't feel comfortable working with a small group on your own, just let me know and you can be paired with someone else.

How does it work?
The retreat participants will be divided up into small groups and each group will have one or two Teaching Associates. Jeremy will introduce projective group dream work to the whole group and then he will cycle round to all the small groups to work with you and with them.

What are the duties of a TA?
Set a positive tone, model the "in my version of the dream" form, monitor the group process for fairness and equal opportunity, participate fully and authentically in the work of the group, and keep track of administrative requirements.

Location:
To get a sense of the place, visit sandamiano.org

What will it cost?
Nothing if you do not need housing or meals.  If you do, you will get a discount.
Schedule:
Friday night, 8-10pm, Saturday, 9-6pm, Sunday, 9-noon

How to sign up:
Contact Kathy at kathryntaylor123@comcast.net and I'll put you on the "official" TA list. Once I send your name to San Damiano you can contact them directly to set up housing and/or meals (if you need them). A month before the workshop I'll send you an email reminding you of the details
