Camp Kingsley Cub Scout Resident Camp



Congradulations to Camp Director, Rob Mahardy and the Camp Kingsley Staff for passing the National Visation.












Cub Scout from all the districts of Leatherstocking Council have come to spend a week at Camp Kingsley in Ava, New York.



Camp Kingsley has a long history . It was once a fully functional Boy Scout Camp, serving troops from all over the area. Over time the camp has transitioned into a fully functional Cub Scout Camp with Cubs coming from other councils to enjoy the great program and amp staff.



The camp's layout has been specially designed for Cub Scouts and parents. The camps center has many of the program areas including the new ga-ga ball pit. Many of the camps outdoors events are held here as well. The waterfront is where many cub scouts have completed their first Swim test  and have daily swimming activities. Older Scouts can try their luck on tje new floating iceberg The shooting sports area is also a short walk from the main part of camp and has a newly built pavilion for campers to shoot from. Scouts' and Scouters' sleeping areas include several leanto's and tent sites. Flush toilets and showers are planned for the camping areas



Although camp season is almost half over for Camp Kingsley. The camp is available year round for units to attend for weekend use. It is very close to Rome's Fort Stanwix, Oriskany Battlefield State Historic Site, Old Forge, near by ski areas and many other local attractions.

Tips to keep critters away
 
Campsites oftenn appear to be an open invitation to unwanted critters!  So how do you keep your campsite animal-proof?  How do you keep your late night snacks secure for when your Scouts are ready to munch on them?  Read this article from Scouting Magazine written by By Cliff Jacobson.





 


Are you ready for the Start for the fall Scouting Season?



Now is the time to get your meeting Location Secured for another year. Do you need a proof of insurance certificate for your meeting location? If so please visit the scouting forms Page and use the online request form to get your Certificate today.  Scouting Forms Page



It is also the time to contact the schools about doing a recruiting night. Some school require certificates or other documentation to use the school for recruiting. So please start the process with your District Executive soon, so that you have time to plan and organize a great Scout night.

Kernels' Corner - Popcorn Sale Update



Orders are now being taken for Show 'n Sell/Show 'n' Deliver. To place your order simply log onto the Campmasters.org and follow the tab for ordering. Product will be delivered on August 18th to your local warehouse.
With the new Council comes new user names for all units. Your new user name will be last years username with the addition of a district code in front. For example, if your unit code was C123 last year it would be AFC123 this year. District codes are; Adirondack Foothills (AH), Deerslayer (DS), Foothills (FH), and Powderhorn (PH).  Unit identifiers will be Packs will be P , Troops T, and Crews C.

Password note: remember each year your unit password is reset. For your initial login use hello. After that you will be prompted to establish a new password along with a security question. If you have any problems getting into your account contact Tom Labayewski or your unit serving executive.
Commissions: Base commission for all units is 29%. All units can earn an additional 5% by having your kernel attend a training session. The first round of training were help at the program and popcorn kickoffs in June. Another opportunity to get trained will be at your District kickoff in August. Our goal is to ensure that all units receive the 5% bonus so if your unit has not attended this year's training contact your DE as soon as possible.
