Welcome to the Leatherstocking Council, the new name for the merged Otschodela and Revelutionary Trails Councils! Many Scouts sent in their ideas for our new Council name, but the winner, with an overwhelming number of votes, was Leatherstocking Council. "Leatherstocking" pays tribute to James Fenimore Cooper's collection of novels, together referred to as the Leatherstocking Tales. Many of these novels take place in areas covered by our expansive Council.
Both Scout Shops will be open during the merger of the Councils. You may purchase any items you need at either location. If you have any questions or concerns you may call your local Scout Shop:
Oneonta: 607-432-6491
Utica: 315-735-4437
Report to the State
The annual Report to the State presents a significant opportunity for our Council, districts, and even units to tell their stories to our elected officials and other Scouting advocates. This year's Report to the State occurs Wednesday, April 6, 2016 in Albany, NY. Click here to let us know if you're interested in attending.
Scouts In Action
The Scouts of Troop 18 pose with their new Klondike Derby sled.
Boy Scout Troop 18 participated in the annual Klondike Derby at Camp Russell. The Scouts competed in many events; fire building, cross-cut sawing, first aid, snow-snake, tennis ball launch and the Great Sled Race. The Troop placed first overall and won the sled race. The new Klondike sled was built with the assistance of George Lumber. Congrats to Troop 18 on their victory!
