Member Services - Norm Proft, Skate Canada Member Services Director
Skate Canada and Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut work closely together to develop the sport of figure skating throughout the country and province. Norm Proft, Skate Canada Member Services Director, will discuss this important relationship between the National office and the Section office and will also provide information relating to membership services, club bylaws, and membership policies and procedures, which can be used by club and members on an ongoing basis.
Bullying in Sport presented by Dr. William Bridel
Bullying is generally defined as, "unwanted, aggressive behavior that involves a real or perceived power imbalance....including actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose." Bullying can also occur through electronic means, such as social media, email, or texting. In this presentation, Dr. William Bridel will discuss what has been referred to as "bullying culture" and consider this idea within the context of skating in Canada.

All club delegates are encouraged to attend and observers are also welcome. 2016 Coaches & Officials Summit

Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut's Officials Coordinating Committee and Coaching Committee invites officials and coaches to learn how to take Program Components and Grade of Execution (GOE) scores to the next level.
We are very pleased to bring you presenters recognized in the international environment for their expertise in Singles, Pairs and Dance: Dr. Marco Buttarelli, Italy ISU Judge and International Referee in Singles and Pairs ISU Program Components Moderator Shae Zukiwsky, Canada International Choreographer, Level 3 Coach and ISU Dance Technical Specialist Participants will have the opportunity to: - Learn to distinguish between average program component marks and great program component marks and how to maximize the grade of execution (GOE).
- Attend on and off-ice sessions relating to edge flow, quality and transitions. Section athletes will be on-hand to enhance the sessions with demonstrations.
- Review the process of quality recognition and the awarding of program component marks
- Qualifies for Continuous Education Program Points (CEP)

Sports Medicine Council of Alberta - Knowledge to Action (K2A) Conference
The Sport Medicine Council of Alberta is a non-profit organization that focuses on injury prevention and management, nutrition and concussion through educational courses.
Date: May 13 - 15, 2016 Location: Matrix Hotel, Edmonton, AB This conference will provide an interdisciplinary experience for professionals in the Sport Medicine and Rehabilitation fields. The K2A conference has been designed to enhance practitioner's knowledge in the Shoulder and Upper Extremity. The sessions are led by skilled and accomplished professionals from various disciplines, educating on practical topics. Through a variety of lecture style and practical sessions, attendees will gain information and skills that can be immediately incorporated into practice, turning knowledge into action. Special Olympics
2016 HONOURED ATHLETIC LEADER: Barb Prystai - Special Olympics Figure Skating
Barb Prystai received the 2016 Calgary Booster Club Honoures Athletic Leader Award.
Barb has been a key volunteer with the Special Olympics Calgary figure skating program since 1997. She is currently Head Coach of the figure skating and Learn to Skate program for Special Olympics Calgary. Barb is an NCCP Certified Level 3 figure skating coach and a Level 2A Special Olympics coach and has been the Special Olympics figure skating coach for Alberta four times. Barb was part of Team Canada as a figure skating coach for the 2013 Special Olympics World Games in Korea. She was Special Olympics Calgary Female Coach of the Year in 2001, 2010 and 2015. She continues to work tirelessly for her athletes as a role model, coach, mentor and friend.
Congratulations Barb on your achievement.
