Barbara Graham - 10th Anniversary
October 17, 1936 - May 8, 2004
The 2014 Wild Rose Invitational marks the 10 year anniversary of the memorial of her death that was held at the 2004 Wild Rose Competition. We would like to recognize Barbara and her contributions that are still so important to what figure skating is today.
As technical director of the Canadian Figure Skating Association from 1972 to 1991, Barbara's influence was felt throughout the skating community. A former National Junior Pair Champion and international judge, her great love and passion for figure skating was supplemented by her outstanding technical knowledge and ability to envision, develop and establish programming to support the progression of the sport.
Taking the lead in skater development and training courses, including the development of NCCP technical development courses for coaches, she organized and conducted national training seminars for singles, dance and pairs, and oversaw judges and coaches clinics and workshops.
She standardized the training of judges and laid the foundation to the best judges training system in the world.
Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut is proud to have had Barbara as the Skater Development Specialist in our Section for many years.

The Clubhouse
Re:Sound:
Over the past few weeks, many clubs/schools may have received an invoice from Re:Sound. Email communication went out to all clubs/schools in the summer and fall of 2013 stating the need to identify to Re:Sound whether or not your club/school has held ice shows in the past several years. If a club/school did not declare to Re:Sound, then Re:Sound reserved the right to invoice for full payment of the tariff related to ice shows for ALL years back to 2008. If you have received an invoice from Re:Sound, your club/school likely did not identify whether or not it had done ice shows in recent years.
If your club/school has not held an ice show since 2008, please advise Re:Sound of this fact. Otherwise, you must submit directly to Re:Sound the required calculation forms available in Members Only under Clubs and Schools > Re:Sound Information:
- Form T5E to identify ice shows held 2012 and earlier with which payment is to be remitted for an ice show held during 2012
- Form T5E to identify ice shows held in 2013 with which payment is to be remitted for that ice show

CanSkate Connection
As clubs prepare for the upcoming CanSkate season, trying to coordinate schedules for Coaches and Program Assistants can be a challenge. I recommend using Google Drive to make things easier. In Google Drive create a spreadsheet or calendar with your session dates, share a link to this document with your Coaches and/or Program Assistants (ensure the settings allow them to edit the document), this way those receiving the link have the ability to sign-up for sessions or to indicate days they are unavailable.
For more assistance with preparing for the upcoming CanSkate season, join me for a CanSkate Planning Workshop Saturday, August 23 in Edmonton. Click here for more information.
