Alberta Sport Plan Renewal -
Opportunity for all Albertans to Be Involved
The Alberta Sport Plan is being renewed by Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation with the support of an Advisory Committee. The process will involve extensive consultation with Albertans and stakeholders from across the spectrum of Sport in Alberta.
As part of the Alberta Sport Plan renewal process, a Pre-Forum Consultation which consists of an online survey is now available where Albertans can identify broad priorities for sport across Alberta. Broad priorities will be based on outcomes identified in the Canadian Sport Policy 2012.
Results from the online survey will help shape subsequent steps in the consultation, including a Sport Forum November 1-2 and a series of regional meetings with representatives from across the broad spectrum of sport. Feedback received through all of these channels will inform the draft Alberta Sport Plan, which is expected to be available for review by all Albertans in 2014.
To have a voice in the Alberta Sport Plan, complete the survey by October 11, 2013 at http://albertasportplan.budgetsimulator.com/

CanSkate Connection Thank you to everyone that participated in the recent CanSkate webinar, special thank you to Calgary Professional Skate Service and Section Staff for hosting. We were please with the number of people who got on the line to hear more about what the New CanSkate should look like at your club! Here is one of the questions asked during the webinar. Q: Is Skate Canada tracking the number of registrations and skater retention in the new program to compare those numbers with the old program? A: "By nature CanSkate is a transitional program. The rate of retention may not be the key information needed to determine whether or not the program is successful. It could actually be a measure of inadequacy of the program. If kids keep coming back to CanSkate - that means they are not progressing quickly. Measuring the number of CanSkaters going to StarSkate may not be a good indication either, as we WANT to be the #1 program for Hockey, Ringette and Speed Skating to use to teach their skaters how to skate. If we have more of these members in our program our rate of retention would actually appear to have dropped, yet we hit one of our targets. Our true measure of success for this program will be in the quality of the skating the skater acquires when they leave. This is difficult to measure, and we are looking at ways we can highlight the success of this mission." - Response from Monica Lockie, recent recipient of the Skate Canada Community NCCP Coach Developer Award We want to know how CanSkate is going in your club and if you need additional information or resources, so stay tuned for more ways to connect and develop your CanSkate sessions. We are here to help as you 'cross-over' to the new program!! Tammy Greidanus CanSkate Resource Team Member tammylg@shaw.ca |
