2014 Section ACGM
Call for Ideas
The 2014 Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut Annual Conference and General Meeting will take place on May 3, 2014 at the Edmonton Marriott at River Cree Resort.
The Section ACGM is host to a number of workshops focused on topics relevant to the upcoming skating season in regards to skating programs, athlete development, and club development to list a few.
Every year we ask the Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut membership to submit workshop ideas. This allows the Section to focus on topics that are ongoing and relevant within the Section.
If you are interested in submitting a workshop idea, please complete the Call for Presentations form. We encourage all members to consider ideas they would like presented as workshop topics at the Section ACGM. Please submit no later than September 19, 2013.

2013 Synchronized Skating Development Camp Featuring Marilyn Langlois

The Section is hosting a two day camp that is open to all club administrators, team managers, officials, coaches, and skaters! Sessions will be held in the classroom, in the gym, and on the ice. Topics will cater to everyone from the grassroots of synchronized skating and how to get started, right up to the National level competitors. Participants will be split into groups based on levels. Club and Skating School Registration
Online club and skating school registration through Members Only is now open for the 2013-2014 membership year.
The annual registration information package has already been distributed by Skate Canada, so be sure to check your club's mailbox as it contains important information for your club or skating school.
Log into Members Only and complete your club's 2013-2014 Club Board of Directors and Authorized Purchasers Listing and update your club's Professional Coaches Listing. To access this information and also to ensure the contact information for your club is correct, click on Clubs and Schools > Clubs > Club Information Update. To update your club's Board of Directors listing click on <Board> at the bottom of the screen, or coaches can be updated by clicking on <Coaches>.
Similar to last year, coaches will not be receiving registration information by mail; however, all coach registration information will be provided in e-blasts and posted in Members Only. Make sure your coaches stay informed and encourage them to log in to Members Only to complete online registration for the 2013-2014 membership year.
The Return of CanSkate T-Shirts
The much anticipated return of the CanSkate t-shirt program has arrived! T-shirts are available in youth, ladies, and men's sizes, so you can be sure to outfit everyone in your club. Keep an eye out for order forms included in the Skate Canada mailing arriving in the next few weeks. Please follow guidelines on the order form to avoid delays.
Re:Sound Frequently Asked Questions
Clubs with questions regarding Re:Sound fees are now able to consult the easily accessible "Re:Sound Frequently Asked Questions" document.
The Re:Sound form (found under Carnival Information) is to be submitted to Re:Sound by September 20, 2013 to report on ice shows that were held in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Payment for Ice shows held between January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2012 are to be paid directly to Re:Sound by submitting the appropriate form.

CanSkate Assignment
Effective September 1, 2015
For CanSkate Coaches who are working on their CanSkate Assignment please note that effective September 1, 2015 all current CanSkate assignments must be submitted and marked.
After September 1, 2015 CanSkate assignments will not be accepted and those candidates will need to begin their CanSkate coach training in the new program beginning with the CanSkate Pre-Course Training Module.

Duso's Skater of the Month
Congratulations Angela Salud of the Beaverlodge SC!
Angela is relatively new to skating, but loves being on the ice. She is a dedicated skater with a positive attitude and perfect attendance. She listens intently to her coaches and enjoys watching the STARSkaters after her session.

Congratulations Brenda Tuckey of the Fort Smith SC!
Brenda has been a member of the Fort Smith SC Executive for over several years. Brenda has also taken on the role of Carnival Chair for at least 3 years. She is passionate about supporting skating and the Club appreciates her dedication!

On June 20th, 2013 the town of High River was devastated in the southern Alberta flooding.
The High River FSC operated with about 60 members and many of them lost all of their skating equipment in the flood. There were many of our members that received extensive damage to our homes and lost all of the belongings that we were in basements and garages.
Our community is working hard to renovate and rebuild schools, businesses, services and homes. In the weeks and months following the flood we are slowly resuming normal life in High River. Our skating arena was also flooded but we are hopeful that it will be repaired and ready for us to begin our skating season in October 2013.
We know that it will be a difficult year financially for many of our member families and we are hoping that we will be able to ensure that all of our skaters can get back on the ice this season.
Any used or new equipment donations for skaters, ranging in ages 4 to adult such as: tights, gloves, skate guards, skating bags, and skates would help so much.
