2013 ISU World Figure Skating ISU Worlds Logo 2013Championships

The world's top skaters have congregated in London, Ontario to compete for World titles. The competition began on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 and conludes on Saturday, March 17, 2013. "This is the 10th time that the ISU World Figure Skating Championships will be held in Canada, and the first time they will be held in London, Ontario" says Skate Canada.

Kaetlyn Osmond who is coached by Ravi Walia at the Ice Palace Figure Skating Club, will represent Canada in the Senior Women event. After the short program, Kaetlyn is sitting in fourth with a season's best score of 64.73.

Alberta Figure Skating Foundation Awards: Last Day to Submit Applications  

Triple Gold Awards AFSF are awarded to skaters who have completed any three of the disciplines of Free Skate, Dance, Skating Skills, or Interpretive at the Gold Level and are members of the AFSF as of January 1, 2013.

 

Quadruple Gold Awards are awarded to skaters who have completed all four disciplines of Free Skate, Dance, Skating Skills, and Interpretive at the Gold Level and are members of the AFSF as of January 1, 2013.

2013 Section Board of Directors

The following positions for election in 2013 to the Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut Board of Directors are: Chair, Vice Chair (odd year), Skating Programs Committee Chair and Events Committee Chair. These positions provide leadership and oversee committees throughout the Section. The election will take place on May 4, 2013 at the 2013 Section ACGM in Red Deer.

Sports Medicine Council of Alberta: SMCA Annual Student Scholarships 
The SMCA, in conjunction with its provider groups, has four  scholarships available to post-secondary students enrolled in a full-time Sports Nutrition, Athletic Therapy, Physiotherapy or Sports Science program of study in Alberta.

Section Delegate and Proxy Forms  
The Section ACGM is being held in Red Deer on May 4, 2013. We encourage each club to be represented at the Section AGM by completing a delegate and/or proxy form. For each club sending a delegate, please complete the delegate form. For each club that is not represented by a delegate attending the Section Annual General Meeting, the club may be represented by giving their proxy to a delegate, an individual member, to vote in their place by completing the proxy form. Please submit these forms to the Section office or to your Region Representative by April 30, 2013. Region AGMs and Elections 

Throughout March, all Regions will be holding their annual Region AGM meetings where members of the region gather to review the skating season, share success stories, announce the achievement award recipients for the region and Skate Canada updates are provided. Elections for each Region Committee also occur at these meetings and nominations are taken from the floor. Please review the Region Nomination Package for information.

 

Most of the Region AGM meetings are held face-to-face, however some meetings are held via conference call. The Region AGM meeting dates are:

 

March 19 - Edmonton Region

March 21 - Peace Region

March 23 - Central Region and South Region

March 24 - Northeast Region 

April 3 - Calgary Region  

TBD - NWT Region

As a member of the Red Deer SC Executive, Tim is dedicated to the day-to-day activities of the club and its members. On several occasions, Tim has been asked to help out with various tasks and he has always gone above and beyond to lend a hand.  

 

The Red Deer SC hosted a recent competition and he was dedicated to announcing the event for the entire weekend. Congratulations to Tim Kreil on being the Duso's February Helping Hand of the Month.

Congratulations Trevin Ressler of the Medicine Hat Skating Club, Duso's February Skater of the Month!
The February Duso's Skater of the Month is Trevin Ressler from the Medicine Hat SC. He has been skating with the Medicine Hat Skating Club since he was 2 years old and participates in the CanPowerSkate program. Trevin is dedicated to skating and hockey. He enjoys being on the ice and always pushes himself to improve. He continues to learn and improve every year thanks to the efforts of his skating coaches.  Congratulations to Trevin on being the Duso's February Skater of the Month!
