 CanSKate Graphics - Girl2

I encourage all coaches and club administrators to try a slightly new approach to working with your very beginner skaters.  A component of the NEW CanSkate program is Pre-CanSkate, previously referred to as a preschool program for ages 3-5.  In the new system Pre-CanSkate is a readiness vehicle geared for anyone who has never skated before or is not confident with their balance, regardless of age.  Pre-CanSkate focuses on 8 basic skills (many of the prior stage 1 skills) in a confined area of the ice.  The goal is to integrate skaters to the mainstream so that they may rotate to the learning stations as soon as their skills and confidence progress.  The format for incorporating Pre-CanSkate will depend on each clubs unique scenario.  More information including sample Pre-CanSkate lesson plans and circuits can be found in the NEW CanSkate Manual.
