Being thankful for everything is something that may seem impossible at times. Your pet gets sick, the turkey gets done too early, the guests haven't arrived yet. Our reality may not be pretty. However, the Lord is blessing each of us.
Think about your blessings. You do have food and the means to prepare it. You have family and friends who care enough and who are able to visit. Your pet is a faithful companion.
As William Arthur Ward wrote,
"God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today.
Have you used one to say 'thank you?'"
Whatever the circumstances, good or bad, let the peace of God flood over you and realize how much you have to be grateful for. In a Thanksgiving message Dr. Norman Vincent Peale urged his congregation at Marble Collegiate Church in Manhattan to have "an enthusiastic attitude of gratitude." This practice, Dr. Peale stated, "stimulates an even greater flow of the Lord's blessings."
An even greater flow-the Lord is motivated to bless us when we praise Him. Remember the ancient hymn, The Doxology:
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost! Amen.
An attitude of praise to God is in every being, every thing, moving in concert together. Praise and thanksgiving is a happy force which comes from within, one that spurs you and me on to experience a growing faith. Thanking God daily, even for a second, opens up our eyes to see a greater flow of blessings!
We pray that you are in a place of peace and blessing this year.
Happy Thanksgiving!
