Greetings!
"We do not stand alone in this world for we can turn to God and He will always help us. Fill your mind with thoughts of God; get in harmony with God's will; eliminate from your mind all feelings contrary to love; practice simple trust. God then can help you." - Norman Vincent Peale
Oh how I love the word Harmony! I suppose it's because it conjures up so many positive thoughts, emotions, and yearnings. It means there is agreement and accord, all leading to unity, peace and friendship. Many of us often think of harmony as it relates to music. When I hear the words, Amazing grace how sweet the sound, tears of emotion well up and I feel in harmony with the Lord. It's pure harmonic resonance that brings me into accord with life's precious gifts: God, soul, heart, presence, and everything united the moment the first bar begins to play. The words and notes come through like a wave washing up at the shore and you can just feel its power from head to toe.
"Submit to God and be at peace with him;
in this way prosperity will come to you." - Job 22:21
Summer is 'Amazing Grace' and brings God's great orchestra together - it's nostalgic for some as we long to go back to summertime dreams and childhood freedom. It's serene and warming to the soul. Just sit for a moment wherever you are and listen to the season's harmonic resonance of the crickets and locusts singing together, the birds leading the melody and the sounds of the breeze keeping tempo. It's enough to make you feel like you're floating on air.
"A heart at peace gives life to the body." - Proverbs 14:30
Many of us yearn for the extra summer chores to become less of a burden. I often pray for God to show me the best way to work that will create harmony in my life so I can enjoy the season, this time, the present, and feel at peace in my body, mind and soul. Each morning in prayer and meditation, it is my time to get into harmony with God's will for me this day and within the season of my life.
"Lord, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished You have done for us." - Isaiah 26:12
In the booklet, How to Have a Good Day Everyday, written by Dr. Peale, it is suggested that you can make life better by doing better with it. Isn't that what living in harmony is? It's about living in harmony with God - waking up new thought patterns that will develop into a fresh, and powerful, motivating force in your life. Here are a few insights:
1. Before arising, spend a moment recalling the most pleasant and exciting thing that happened to you yesterday. Dwell on it briefly. Savor it and experience a warm glow.
"I am always with you." - Matthew 28:20
2. Practice emptying out all fear, negativism, hate, and tension thoughts. You have sovereign control over the material that the mind shall hold. Wash your hands and face. Then pull the stopper...as the soiled water rushes out, say, "So do I wash out all fear, hate and tension thought. I let them all go now."
3. Next, practice filling the mind, for it cannot remain empty for long. Your mind will fill up with something, since it is not intended to be a vacuum. Quietly and prayerfully read a few verses from Matthew, Mark, Luke, John or the Psalms.
"Consider the blameless, observe the upright;
a future awaits those who seek peace." - Psalm 37:37
4. The next step concerns your first conversation or remarks to others. What you say has a great effect on how you think. Talk pleasantly to everyone in the first half hour and the whole day is likely to remain pleasant. Harmonious!
5. Always start every day with a prayer, for prayer is the greatest of all mind conditioners. Even if you do not have the time to pray, pray anyway. "Fill the mind full of God."
"Think a good day; thank a good day; plan a good day;
make a good day; pray a good day." - Norman Vincent Peale
