 February 2013
Nick Begich Scholarship
Nick Begich

The Nick Begich Scholarship Intern Fund was created in 1977 to carry on the ideals of the late Congressman Nicholas J. Begich from Alaska, who came to the state in 1956 as a teacher and believed that education was both a right and a privilege, one that must be available to all as a key to self-realization.

This year the Fund will be offering  both Fellowship/Intern and Scholarship  applications. Scholarship amounts range from $500 to $2,000. Any Alaska resident pursuing a degree in education, government, or public service is eligible to apply.  There is no age limitation on Scholarship applications. Apply here.

The deadline to apply is February 28, 2013.

Rural Alaskan Honors Institute Application Open
RAHI

Are you a junior or senior in high school? Do you have a GPA of 3.0 or higher? Do you want to earn between 7 and 11 college credits at UAF this summer? Want to experience college/dorm life with other high school students? Want it all for FREE (over a $6,000 scholarship!)? Then RAHI is for you!

Rural Alaska Honors Institute (RAHI) provides 60 rural and Alaska Native students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the college experience for six weeks at University of Fairbanks. High school junior and senior students live in the dorms and take college level courses. They earn 8 - 10 credits and learn firsthand what it takes to succeed in college.

In addition to the rigorous academic program, students learn study skills and time management and by the end of the program, our proven record shows these students are ready for the challenge of succeeding in college. There is no cost for selected students. Students also receive round-trip transportation from their home. Apply here.

The deadline is March 1, 2013.

Alaska Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute
ANTHC

Are you an Alaskan youth aged 14-24? Are you interested in bringing positive change to our community? Would you like to join a core group of young Alaskans who encourage their peers to make positive and healthy choices? If so becoming a Youth Wellness Ambassador can give you the tools to get you started!

iknowmine and the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (ANDVSA) are pairing up to launch a brand-new program for all Alaskan youth ages 14-24 to help them create positive and healthy changes in their communities.

Youth Wellness Ambassadors are awesome, motivated individuals who have a great idea or the drive to promote healthy, positive change in their communities. This could look like setting up a movie night about anti-bullying or giving out safe sex supplies to older teens in your community or hanging up healthy messaging posters in your local clinic.

Ambassadors must be residents of Alaska living outside of the Anchorage/Mat-Su area between the ages of 14-24. Those under 18 must have parental permission. All applicants must have a letter of support from an adult sponsor. Apply here.  You can contact Taija Revels (907) 729-3927 or tnrevels@anthc.org with any questions you have.

Deadline to apply is February 22nd, 2013.
