Do you know a great teen or youth group involved in positive activities or giving back to their community?  Please take a few minutes to nominate them for recognition from Spirit of Youth.

Each young person who is nominated receives a congratulations packet with keepsakes from Sprit of Youth and is publicly recognized.  Nominees are also eligible to be selected for the Spirit of Youth Award including a $500 scholarship.  Teens are recognized all year long through Spirit of Youth stories aired on most Alaska public radio stations.

The application is simple and can be completed at www.spiritofyouth.org.  Nominations in any of the 11 categories (including art, cultural activities, service to community and many more) can be submitted for teens (or teen groups) ages 12-19.

The deadline for this year is Dec. 31.

Act Fast to Join the Youth Policy Summit

The Youth Policy Summit invites youth ages 18-24 to offer their perspectives to legislators and other policy-makers about issues related to Alaska's social services system-such as foster care, residential care, juvenile justice, homeless services, and more. This is an opportunity to gain valuable skills and to speak up about the things you care about!

Complete an application here. The Summit will be held in Juneau on Feb. 10-13, 2013. Hurry! The deadline for applications is Tuesday, Dec. 18.  Email  advocacy.coordinator@alaska.gov for more information.

Champions for Change
The Champions for Change program recognizes and encourages inspirational Native American youth (ages 14 to 24) working in their tribal or urban Indian communities to promote hope and make a positive impact. Champions can include individuals who initiate programs, events, or other efforts to improve the lives of fellow Native youth and Indian Country as a whole.

The Center for Native American Youth is calling for young Native Americans across Indian Country to submit their stories of leadership and service in tribal and urban Indian communities, schools, and programs across the country. Five finalists will be selected and recognized at an event in early 2013 in Washington, DC. The Center invites you to get creative - story submissions can be in a written or video form.
