Camp Oljato Work Parties
Every year we need help getting the camp ready for the summer and then ready for winter. We provide meals and lodging for all volunteers, while volunteers get a weekend in the High Sierras, comradeship, and sense of accomplishment.
Opening Weekends (May & June) get camp ready for the onslaught of summer fun. Camp needs to be cleaned up-remove downed trees and repair any physical damage from winter (roofs, trails, etc.).
Closing Weekends (Aug & Sept) shut down camp and prepare it for winter hibernation. Boats, tents, and camp equipment are cleaned, repaired and put into storage. Various camp maintenance and improvement projects are also completed at this time. We also need volunteer cooks because we provide meals and lodging for all volunteers. Work is available for all ages but very young children are discouraged. Overnight stay is recommended because of the distance to camp.

Important Travel Tip: When you get to Shaver Lake, call Camp Ranger Sonny Payne at (650) 759-5545 to let him know you're there. This way he can meet you at the dock to bring you to camp by boat. Shaver Lake is where you'll probably have cell phone coverage.

Going to Camp Without Your Troop?
A Scout going to camp without his troop is called a Provisional Scout.
As a provisional Scout you will be assigned to be part of another troop. To sign up as a provisional Scout, just click "Individual" instead of "Contingent," during the signup process; it's that easy. If it's your second week at an accredited BSA Summer Camp, you can save $100!! If it's your second week, use the discount code "survivethewildx2".
