null What is Friends of Scouting?
It costs the council $1.2 Million to provide all of our Scouting programs to your sons and daughters. Friends of Scouting is the means by which the council raises funds to cover these costs and comes from each family's contribution to support the programs. Here's a fun little video to explain more. If so, the Camping Committee is looking for additional candidates to serve as council Campmasters! The purpose of the Campmaster Corps is to provide an on-site resource to the units and/or groups using our local council camps on weekends and for short-term camping. The Campmasters are a select group of volunteers, who are chosen to serve in this capacity by the council Camping Committee. Campmasters are selected on the basis of their ability in several areas: outdoor skills, specialized knowledge of nature and conservation, and leadership skills. All Campmasters must have a record of demonstrated ability to get along with people, to lead and to act in an emergency. In addition, Campmasters must have a working knowledge of general Scouting program. This is a great opportunity to support our local camps. If you are interested in participating or have additional questions, please contact us at: [email protected].

null Thank you, Ryan Traynor Supporters

Thank you to everyone who supported Ryan Traynor in his dream to bring free STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) classes nationwide in the Jefferson Lead360 Challenge, a direct result of his Eagle project. Although he was extremely honored to be chosen to be in the top 15 projects nationwide, unfortunately he did not get the most votes for his category of Education and Literacy. However, the Jefferson Foundation is considering Ryan for the GlobeChangers program. GlobeChangers identifies extraordinary young people with big ideas and big energy, matches them with a mentor, and trains them to turn their big idea into a national or global service project. Good luck with your future STEM endeavors, Ryan!

Spring Wood Badge - Begins Mar 28
Wood Badge is the culmination of basic leader training for all adult leaders in Scouting - from Cub Scouting and Boy Scouts, to Varsity and Venturing. The course emphasizes development of personal leadership, team-building, and management skills. There are two parts to Wood Badge training: the Practical and Application phases. In the Practical phase, you will live the patrol method and experience the Scout program from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts to Venturing. Along the way you develop a better understanding of Scouting's youth, camping, and have lots of FUN in the process! In the Application phase, you will put to use the skills learned during the Practical phase by working your "ticket" - a personal plan you develop that should take at least 6 months and no more than 18 months to complete. Throughout the Wood Badge Experience, you are mentored by a staff member. Note: Spring Wood Badge is a non-Sunday course. Fall Wood Badge begins Aug 22, 2015. Click here for more info.
