null Venturer Josh DeWitt Awarded Area Leadership Award
This past weekend at the Western Region Area 3 Leadership Summit, Josh DeWitt (right, in photo), President of Venture Crew 420, was awarded the Area Venturing Leadership Award. Josh has recently restarted the Pacific Skyline VOA (Venturing Officers Assoc.) and is also an active officer of the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council VOA despite his Crew being chartered in Pacific Skyline Council. null Passing of Mike Coggiola, Silver Beaver and Former Scoutmaster

Last Saturday, past Scoutmaster for Troop 30 (1999-2003) Mike Coggiola passed away at his home in Sunnyvale. Mike was diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy, a rare neurodegenerative disease. Mike has been Scoutmaster or Stanford Advancement Chairman responsible for over 350 Eagle Scouts. He guided the troop with a strong program, recruiting many leaders and growing the Scouts into fine young men. Mike received the Silver Beaver Award in 2011. Viewing and Rosary are this Friday, March 28 at Cusimano Colonial Mortuary, 96 W El Camino Real, MV, CA 94040, (650) 968.4453. Viewing is 5-7pm, Rosary 7-8pm. There will be no reception after the Rosary. The family prefers no food at this time. You will be missed, Mike Coggiola!

NRA Rifle Instructor Course - Apr 18-20 

This course is for training Rifle Instructors and requires a minimum of one year shooting experience with rifles to be eligible to take this course. This course gives the student the skills, knowledge and attitude necessary to become a rifle instructor who can teach the basic rifle shooting program. Click here for more info.

This course covers the basics of archery which includes range safety, how to shoot a bow, how to select equipment for beginner shooters, how to teach beginner shooters, how to run a basic program, sample lesson plans, how to teach simple drills and skills to new archers. National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) - June 14-20 

Registration now open. An exciting, action-packed program provides youth with leadership skills and experience they can use in their units and in other situations. Key concepts focus on what a leader must BE, what he must KNOW, and what he must DO, and are taught with a clear focus on HOW TO. The Philmont Training Center (PTC) is the only national volunteer training center for the Boy Scouts of America. Since 1950, PTC has provided a unique environment for training volunteer and professional leaders, and a fun family program for every member of the family. Each year, more than 6,000 Scouters and family members attend PTC. Each conference features the latest tools and techniques, audiovisuals, discussions, idea sharing, and activities led by a faculty of experienced Scouters. Webelos get a "sneak peek" into the wonderful world of Boy Scout Camp and a parent gets to enjoy a unique camping experience with their Scout. Webelos can earn advancement in several activity badges and belt loops. Webelos can also participate in aquatics activities including rowing and canoeing and learn hands-on "Trail to First Class" skills including fire-building and cooking their own meal.
