null Troop 12 in Chinese New Year Parade THIS SATURDAY - 2/15
Gung Hay Fat Choy! Welcome to the Lunar Year 4712, the Year of the Horse!  According to the Chinese Zodiac, people born in the Year of the Horse are excellent communicators, energetic and warm-hearted.  Famous people born in the Year of the Horse include President Franklin D. Roosevelt, singer Aretha Franklin, model Cindy Crawford, and astronaut Neil Armstrong.

The San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade is one of the oldest and largest parades of its kind in the United States. This year's parade will be on Saturday, February 15, beginning at 6:00 pm. The parade features hundreds of floats, marching bands, and other performers and will march down San Francisco's Market Street and past the City's iconic Union Square.

A longtime staple of the parade is the Troop 12's Drum & Bugle Corps. Many of Troop 12's members are of Chinese descent. Troop 12 is chartered by the San Francisco Council of Japanese Christian Churches, and will celebrate its 100th Anniversary in 2015!  The Drum & Bugle Corps was formed in 1933 and has marched in the parade for decades. Every Scout in the troop is taught to play an instrument so that they can also perform as a member of the Drum & Bugle Corps, with the range of instruments covering soprano, baritone, and contra-bass bugles, snare drums and marching xylophones.

Troop 12's Drum & Bugle Corps performed at the 2010 Northern California Scout Jamboree, the 2012 Cost of Freedom event hosted by the Sonoma Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the San Francisco Bay Area Council's Distinguished Citizens Awards Dinner from 2008-2012. Congratulations to Troop 12 for its longstanding service to its community!

The San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade will be televised on Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 6-8 pm, on KTVU, Channel 2.
