Sunny Pate, New Redwood District Executive
Sunny Pate is our new district executive for Redwood District. She was born and raised in the Bay Area and graduated from Chapman University with a degree in Business Admin and a minor in Marketing. She is dedicated, driven and passionate about serving youth! She takes on every challenge head-on and does what is needed to accomplish goals - even when the challenge is difficult! Sunny looks forward to getting to know everyone and helping out in any way she can. Welcome aboard, Sunny!
Passing of Discovery District's Nick Gust
We regret to announce that one of the Discovery District's most supportive Scouters, Nick Gust, passed away late Friday, December 6. Nick was the longtime owner of Nick's at Rockaway Beach, the Sea Breeze Motel, and the Moonraker Restaurant, all Pacifica landmarks. Born in Daly City and an Eagle Scout, Nick was the 2005 Honoree of Discovery District's Spirit of Scouting award. He will be sorely missed. See the Mercury News article here.

Trainer's Edge (Supplemental Training) - Feb 8, 2014
Replacing the Trainer Development Conference (BSA 500) as the required train-the-trainer course for Wood Badge and NYLT staffs, it is meant to supplement Wood Badge and NYLT training with a focus on the participant, while raising the level of skill a trainer brings to the staff experience. Only practice can polish these skills, but this course is intended to "train the trainer" on behaviors and resources while offering hands-on experience in methods and media. Learn more here. High Adventure Training (HAT) - 4 parts, Starts Mar 3, 2014 For anyone who intends to take Scout units on outings that are more than a few miles from the trail head. Emphasis is on safety, first aid, and program planning. Cost includes syllabus, snacks and meals, and training badge. Learn more here. National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) - June 14-20, 2014 Registration now open. An exciting, action-packed program provides youth with leadership skills and experience they can use in their units and in other situations. Key concepts focus on what a leader must BE, what he must KNOW, and what he must DO, and are taught with a clear focus on HOW TO. The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership. Click here for more info.
