PBC e-News, Vol.1 Issue 1 - Winter 2015
Highlights on: STYROFOAM
JUST SAY NO

Every year without warning Pacifica Beach Coalition members and beach walkers experience
styrofoam events on our beaches and especially at the Secret Waterfall. It happened again on New Years Day 2015 and Esplanade Site Captain, Claudia Reinhart, discovered thousands of styrofoam caught under iceplant and behind logs at the mouth of the Secret Waterfall.
Where it comes from or how it gets there is still a mystery.
Unfortunately, there is little we can do to clean up the thousands of small pieces before the tides come in and take it all out to sea again. From these episodes, we have learned from experience to "SAY NO TO STYROFOAM" to eliminate any releases into the environment. We also know that the PBC members are out there doing all they can when these incidents happen to recover as much of the debris as is possible.
Say no to styrofoam and if by chance you receive some that can not be reused or recycled, bag it safely and deeply in your garage can to prevent its escape into our environment and eventually the ocean! Thank you.
