Scholarship/Financial Aid

Parents, an important word about scholarships for Breakaway..... "We are in need of scholarship funds, as this year they have all been depleted to zero. If you would like to help a young person go to Breakaway, please pray and talk as a family about helping to pay for another young person to go. I am sensitive to this issue, because when I was a teenager, I received a scholarship for the first youth trip I ever went on. I'm not sure I would be  a youth pastor if a man in the church in 1970 had not paid my way as a fifteen year old. Thanks! We are so looking forward to these Breakaway Weekends!"-Jim Byrne

Greetings!

While in my senior year of college I was working on a 4.0 but had one problem: Archery Class. All of my upper level history classes were doing just fine, but I did not take this PE class very seriously. I had originally signed up with fun in mind, with my two roommates. We had spent more time the first half of the semester fooling around with bows and arrows that the class instructor threatened to fail us. It was an easy class to skip when a paper was due or a history test had to be studied for. I was in risk of failing archery and not graduating on time. So, my last month of my senior year, I had to focus on archery to ace the test and make excellent shots. History was my major, archery was not even my minor.

In our spiritual lives, we get off track and end up majoring in the minors. Like Martha did in Luke chapter 10, we start out with some good idea and then get drawn away by our hearts and minds in some other direction. This year may we as followers of Christ- major in the majors!

What are the majors? What are the important challenges we should be investing our time in, rather than spending our time doing? It helps me now to make a list of priorities and follow through with a clear focus and schedule. I truly think that our young people need time with God alone, praying, meditating on Him and His Word. That would surely be one way to major in the majors.

On Sunday nights we will be focusing on The Lord's Prayer at Crossroads and Cornerstone. I hope that all the young people around here will make that a priority as we kick off 2013. There are lots of ways young people can waste their time. God Bless!
