 WCF Providing Match Grants:

Also Seeking "Big Give S.A." Support

In addition to taking part in "The Big Give S.A." as a charity seeking support, the WellMed Charitable Foundation (WCF) will also match up to $4,000 in donations to four non-profit organizations providing vital senior services. The WCF will match dollar-for-dollar the first $1,000 in donations to

  • Southwest Outreach for Older Persons (SWOOP)
  • Bihl Haus Arts
  • Bulverde Spring Branch Activity Center
  • Alamo Area Parkinson Support Group

"We know the good work that these organizations do daily to improve the quality of life for seniors in our community," said Carol Zernial, Executive Director of the WellMed Charitable Foundation. "We hope supporters of these groups will take advantage of the opportunity to double their donation, and will keep giving once we have reached the match grant total."

money-icon.gif SWOOP (www.swoopsa.org) is a mostly volunteer organization that provides personalized transportation services for older adults in Southwest San Antonio. Lack of transportation is a critical issue facing seniors across the country in getting to medical appointments, making trips to the grocery store, etc.

money-icon.gif Bihl Haus Arts (www.bihlhausarts.org) runs the "GO! Arts" program, which teaches seniors to create art and prose through a structured curriculum. The group teaches seniors at three senior centers operated by the WellMed Charitable Foundation - the Lopez Senior One-Stop Center; the Cisneros Senior Community Activity Center; and the Griffin Senior One-Stop Center. The GO! Arts program earned a national excellence award in 2014 from the National Institute of Senior Centers.
