For the past 2.5 years, Lupe Martinez has played in a round of activities to the whir of treadmills, clacking billiards balls and chatter of conversation.

Recently, with paddle in hand, Martinez, 61, sized up her opponents before smacking an orange pingpong ball across a net. Backed by her doubles partner and husband, Servando, Martinez grinned as her rivals Ezekeil Vega and Elizabeth Cintron joked they'd close the game out. Read more.

ANIMEALS:
A Meals on Wheels Service

Meals on Wheels makes independent living possible for thousands of Bexar County's low-income and homebound seniors. For many seniors, their pet companions make life worthwhile. The goal of Animeals on Wheels is simple - to provide donated pet food for the cats and dogs of our Meals on Wheels recipients to help them keep their pets healthy and happy.

Our story
During daily delivery of meals, volunteers noticed seniors sharing meals with their pets. Many times the pet and senior have been together for years and are often seen as family members. In a world that is isolated and lonely for homebound elders, a pet provides companionship and is a holistic approach to improving the lives of seniors in our community. The AniMeals program helps by providing meals to the friends of our most vulnerable population.

 Volunteer Opportunities

If you would like to help with Animeals, please contact our Volunteer Department. Help is always needed and appreciated!

Here are ways to volunteer:

  • "Adopt" a route and deliver pet food monthly to a list of seniors.
  • Help us sort and bag dog and cat food
  • Participate in a one time delivery for those with an urgent need.
  • Volunteer as Animeals Coordinator

Civic groups, families and other organizations have found Animeals to be a flexible and easy way to give back. For more information please contact us.
