In 2011, WellMed expanded into the Rio Grande Valley and selected Harlingen as the Caregiver SOS Center and the Harlingen Senior Community Center. Gloria Miranda was named Program Manager for Caregiver SOS and Senior Center Operations for the Harlingen Senior Community Center, providing wellness, education and support of Family Caregivers and Cameron County's seniors. Gloria is a Certified Master Trainer for several evidence-based programs, including the Chronic Disease and Diabetes Self- Management Programs (CDSMP) (in both English and Spanish), the Stress-Busting program, and A Matter of Balance (MOB). For four years, she worked for the Brownsville Police Department as a Community Services Officer, and later became the Training and Education Coordinator for Friendship of Women, an organization focused on the prevention of domestic violence. She has more than 15 years of experience working with families, children, adolescents, adults and seniors - and assisting at risk individuals with anger and behavior management, and bereavement Gloria was selected by a renowned psychologist to jointly pilot a marriage-relationship program in Cameron County, the recipient of the Healthy Marriage Initiative Grant initiated by President George W. Bush. Gloria then became the Program Manager for the Hispanic Active Relationships Project (H.A.R.P.) where she played a key role in the successful implementation of H.A.R.P. in Cameron County. Gloria, a graduate of the University of Texas at Brownsville with BA degrees in Psychology and Sociology, is currently pursuing her Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Her community involvement includes sitting on the City of Harlingen Senior Advisory Board. She also is a member of the Rio Grande Diabetes Coalition. |
