*"Being, Belonging, Becoming: The New Paradigm for Quality of Life" with Dr. Jamie Huysman, PsyD, LCSW, CAP, CFT
November is National Family Caregiver Month, but caregivers should be celebrated every month. For years, the quality of our lives as seniors was based solely on our blood pressure, cholesterol, insulin numbers, the amount of sleep we got, and of course how marginalized, detached and isolated we felt. However, researchers at the University of Toronto have defined new values and quality of life indicators as the "Three B's of Aging". Dr. Jamie Huysman invites you to celebrate the month with him as he explores this exciting new quality of life model for us to live by. ___________________________
December Sessions
*"Grief and Loss: Recognizing and Coping with the Losses Associated with Caregiving. with Evalyn Greb, LCSW
Have you found yourself crying or troubled about the condition of your loved one or how you will cope after his/her death? This session will discuss ways to think about grief and loss that help lessen the emotional pain as your loved one changes and/or gets closer to the end of life. You will hear other caregivers share what they have learned about grief and loss.
*"The Importance of Engaging Caregivers in Primary Care" with Carol Zernial, MA, Executive Director, WellMed Charitable Foundation; Vice President-Community Relations, WellMed Medical Management, Inc.
If family caregivers were no longer available, the economic costs to the US health care system would increase astronomically. Consumers and caregivers are often the only consistent piece during transitions from hospital to home, and are frequently expected to serve an active role without adequate information or tools to successfully perform this function. Listen to expert Carol Zernial explore the ways in which caregivers are a critical element of the healthcare team and how they can successfully advocate for their loved ones.
