Grandparents Targeted by Scams

Scam Alert!
CCCS of Greater San Antonio
Offers Advice to Avoid Grandparent Scams
When retired teachers Bob and Jane, (not their real names), got a frantic call from their "grandson" asking for emergency funds, they immediately sprung into action and wired the requested $25,00 0 as they were instructed, by the grandson's "attorney," who explained the funds were needed for bail since their grandson had been in an auto accident after having a glass of wine and hitting "some very important" people.
The couple got more than two dozen phone calls from the scammers over the next three days increasing pressure with their pleas for help. Their continuous hounding tied up the victims' phone line and furthered the sense of urgency. When the scammers believed they were on to them, the victims received a call from someone acting as a policing authority, stating they were aware of the situation and to let the money be transferred so they could catch them "in the act," assuring the money would be returned.
