FREE Managing College Debt Event
Saturday, July 13, 2013  -  9:30 a.m.

Summer is here, college days have passed and student loans are pressing - please share with your contacts.

Nonprofit financial counseling agency, Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater San Antonio (CCCSSA) is hosting a MONEY SMART: Managing College Debt Event on Saturday, July 13, 2013. The event will be held at 6851 Citizens Parkway, San Antonio, Texas 78229, starting at 9:30 a.m.

Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation (TG), a nonprofit organization that also helps repay their student loan debts, will share tips on handling and repaying student loan debts wisely.

Anyone with student loans, especially those who are graduating soon, should learn their options since there are repayment plans available, even for those who have defaulted. It is never too late to begin repaying. As a local 501c3 nonprofit financial counseling agency providing financial education for 29 years, we know first-hand the difference it makes when consumers know how to manage college debt within their budgets.

A CCCSSA Certified Consumer Credit Counselor will provide FREE Credit Report Reviews to those bringing in their financial aid statements. This service empowers student loan borrowers to learn the role the credit report plays in their consumer lives.

To register for this event or find out more information, visit www.cccssa.org or call (210) 979-4300

Credit Report Review Sessions

CCCSSA also provides reliable, professional, personal and  confidential counseling to individuals. Each session is tailored to fit your specific needs and includes a review of your financial situation and determination of next steps.

Your credit report is a record of your credit activities, such as credit card loan payments, that span a history of seven to ten  years. Creditors, landlords, business persons, employers all look at the report to evaluate your credit worthiness - the likelihood that you will pay back your debt when applying for credit, make a good renter or homeowner or be an effective employee on the job.

For a small fee of $25 ($5 discount for veterans/active duty military with ID), CCCSSA certified consumer credit counselors will show you how to read your credit report, make suggestions for score improvement and dispute incorrect items; they will also help you build an effective household spending plan that will help you to avoid debt and over-spending.  Credit Report Review Sessions are available in-person, by telephone or may be started on the Internet at www.cccssa.org.

Information you will need:

  • Copies of your most recent credit card statement(s) are requested
  • Last month's pay stubs
  • Knowledge of monthly living expenses (mortgage/rent, groceries, utilities, etc.)

At the end of your session, you will leave with a copy of the budget CCCSSA helped you develop as well as an action plan which outlines your next steps in the financial process. To get started, please call CCCSSA at (210) 979-4300 or 1 (800) 410-2227 toll-free..

Christian Senior Services (CSS)

CSS Wins Four-Star Rating from Charity Navigator

Congratulations to Christian Senior Services of San Antonio, which was recently awarded a four-star rating by Charity Navigator, America's largest charity evaluator.

With thousands of non-profit organizations evaluated annually in the U.S., only one of four ever receives a four-star rating.

"We have always taken our fiduciary/governance responsibilities very seriously and we couldn't be more excited  about the recognition," explained Sharon Baughman, CEO of Christian Senior Services. "Hopefully, this achievement will not only give supporters additional confidence in giving to the organization, but will help bring awareness to the growing epidemic of senior hunger."

In Bexar County, the fastest growing population segment is seniors over the age of 60, with half suffering from one or more disabling condition. With so many older residents becoming homebound every year, the demand for Christian Senior Services' Meals on Wheels program continues to increase.

"In 2005, we delivered over 500,000 meals," added Baughman.  "This year, we are projected delivery of 950,000 meals to homebound seniors who desperately need the service.  As has been the case for many years, we couldn't achieve these milestones without the support of our volunteers, corporate partners, and financial supporters."

Christian Senior Services will be listed on the Charity Navigator website for the remainder of the year, with the coveted four-star rating attached to the organization's name.  To learn more or to give a charitable contribution in support of our elderly neighbors, please visit www.christianseniorservices.org.
