Caregiver SOS STARS

Handcrafts Given to Area Seniors in Assisted Living Facilities The Second Annual Caregiver SOS STARS Community Outreach" event took place on December 18, 2012. The Caregiver SOS STARS team distributed about 90 handcrafted scarves and angels to residents of the Veranda Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, located in Harlingen. Each elderly resident was greeted personally by Santa Claus (Juanita Ledezma) and given a gift. Ladies received angels and men received scarves, all handcrafted by the Caregiver STARS. Gloria Miranda, Caregiver Specialist in the Harlingen Center, explained: "Who are the Caregiver STARS? They are our very own caregivers. This is the second year the team gathered to provide outreach to our community's elderly. The STARS started working on the "Angel Project," in August of 2012, in order to have the gifts (crafts) ready for Christmas," "What makes these ladies STARS? They are not only caregivers themselves, but also are all WellMed volunteers at Caregiver SOS and at the Harlingen Senior Community Center. They are exceptional ladies with big hearts and much love for the elderly. It is a joy and privilege for me to work with them all," she continued. Caregiver SOS STARS include:
Juanita Ledezma (Santa Clause & Crochet Instructor); Consuelo "Connie" Galvan (Crochet & Knitting Instructor); Aurora E. Maxey (Arts & Crafts Instructor); Gloria Guerra (Volunteer); Carole Swanson (Member); Oralia "Lala" Alcocer (WellMed Volunteer), andMary Helen De La Rosa (Volunteer). Gloria concluded, "It was a wonderful event that brought joy and happiness to many elderly residents and facility staff. There wasn't a dry eye during the event. It was truly touching and heart-warming, especially since giving IS what Christmas is all about!" |
