HAPPY
100th BIRTHDAY
TO YOU, OLLIE

People often ask us, "What does the O.J.
stand for?"  O.J. was Oliver James Laughlin, the founder of O.J. Laughlin Plumbing Company, Inc. and someone who, on May 13th of this year, would have turned 100 years old.  We here at O.J. Laughlin Plumbing Company, Inc. thought this might be the perfect time to pay tribute to our beloved Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend as well as give our customers a chance to see who this amazing man was and how O.J. Laughlin Plumbing Company, Inc. got to where it is today.  We wish he could be here to celebrate his 100th with us, but his spirit lives on every day at the business he worked so hard to build.

It's All Because of O.J.
Oliver "Ollie" James Laughlin started working full time for his Uncle, Charles T. Herbert & Son Plumbing Company upon graduation of grade school.  He started by riding his bicycle from his Mother's house off Kingshighway and Maffitt to his Uncle's shop in the Tower Grove area.

After serving in the Army during World War II, Ollie began helping with the daily operations due to his Uncle's health.  After his Uncle's death, Ollie decided to start his own plumbing business in 1951.

During the years of 1951 through 1972, O.J. Laughlin Plumbing Company was a repair and remodel shop with some light commercial jobs.  Ollie averaged about five Plumbers and one Plumber's Laborer at this time.  His two oldest sons, Jim and Bill, worked full time for him and then his son Bob followed in 1972.

Bob took over control and interest of the business in October 1983.  At this time, Bob diversified new types of work in lieu of repair and remodel like his Dad had.  The company saw tremendous growth and Bob brought Dan into the office for additional support and estimating responsibilities in 2001.  Dan continued to flourish, and Bob decided to negotiate a deal with him to take over.  On December 28th, 2012, Bob and Dan officially signed an agreement giving Dan full control of O.J. Laughlin Plumbing Company, Inc.  Business continues to thrive, and there's no doubt Ollie would be extremely proud of the way Dan continues to keep his memory alive by honoring what he established years ago.

Ollie was a hardworking man, who along with his wife Catherine, raised 13 children.  He instilled with all his children good work ethics and stressed good business practices.  Although he has been deceased since 1984, we are sure he would be proud that his beliefs are now being handed down to a third and fourth generation.

Ollie was an active member of the American Legion, and in 1971, was awarded a Gold Membership Card as a Lifetime Member.  He also was a member of the St. Louis Post Commanders Club, being Commander of Legion Post 353 and 355.
