Get Ready for Project HELP

For over four decades, MSJ students, faculty/staff, parents, alumni, and friends have planned  Project HELP, which provides Rutland families in need with Christmas baskets. This year, eighth graders from Christ the King School will join MSJ students in this effort. If you would like to volunteer or make a food or monetary donation, please email Principal Fortier at sfortier@msjvermont.org.

December 16th: Deadline to drop off donations at MSJ 
December 17th: Student food and donation collection
December 18th: Students deliver gift baskets to families

Lenny Burke Court Dedication a Great Success  

Hundreds attended the unveiling of the Lenny Burke Court at MSJ. The strong turn out showed the great support for the Burke family. MSJ student-athlete, Junior Dylan Potter, stated,"I feel honored to be able to wear the same number as [Lenny] and to wear that number on a court dedicated to him." Featured in this photo are the Burke Family, the captains of the MSJ and Rice women's basketball teams, and our Bishop, the Most Reverend Christopher Coyne. 
 
STUDENT NEWS

All-State Students 
We would like to congratulate Jenna Eaton '17, Monica Schmelzenbach '16, and Bryn McClallen '17 for being named All-State in women's soccer! The team completed yet another successful soccer season for the Mount, making it back to the soccer semifinals.


Mountie Selected as Presidential Scholar

MSJ and Stafford Technical Center senior Jonah Farrow '16 has been nominated and selected as one of five US Presidential Scholars in Career and Technical Fields (CTE) in the state of Vermont. Farrow is a multi-sport student-athlete at MSJ, who has excelled both on the field and in the classroom.



MSJ's Joe Ruby Played in North-South Game 

Joe Ruby '16 played in the North-South Senior All-Star Football Game on November 14th at Middlebury College. Although he plays quarterback for MSJ, he played Safety during the North-South game and recorded two tackles. This well-rounded athlete also punted in the All-Star game.

Upcoming Events

Rutland Young Professionals Support Project HELP 
December 15th from 6pm-8pm at Wonderfeet Children's Museum

Join Rutland Young Professionals for their December "Mix" to encourage donations for Project HELP. This month's theme is "the Spirit of Giving," Attendees are encouraged to bring toy donations and food for the Community Cupboard. Participants will be able to buy a Wonderfeet Pass to put in Project HELP baskets. 




CKS Christmas Basketball Tournament 

 MSJ will host Christ The King School Annual Christmas Basketball Tournament on December 28th-30th.  



 
ALUMNI AND FRIENDS

Sally Hogan '15, who was salutatorian of last year's graduating class, will be playing basketball for the Elmira Soaring Eagles. She is attending Elmira on a full tuition merit scholarship and is double majoring in Adolescent Education and English Literature.





MSJ Alum Wedding  

Fellow MSJ alum, Meghan Keenan '02 and Chris Caiafa, were married on August 22nd at Christ the King Church, with a reception at the Mountain Top Inn in Chittenden.

Alum Named CEO of Non-Profit

Brian Hart '99 was named CEO of the KEYS for the Homeless Foundation in Washington, DC. He previously practiced as an attorney with prominent law firm, Paul Weiss, LLP. Valerie Guste Johnson, president and founder of KEYS, stated, "We are incredibly excited to have Brian join our foundation...He brings tremendous experience, talents, and leadership that will be crucial to the organization as we advance and expand our mission to serve those most in need." KEYS is non-profit that aspires to support the homeless. 



Amanda Godwin Eilian '94 recently spoke at the Cornell Entrepreneurship Summit in New York City on November 6th. Eilian is currently the Co-Founder and President of Videolicious, which is a mobile video creation enterprise used by media companies, Fortune 500 brands, and over 3 million people around the world. Videolicious' technology is used by hundreds of newsrooms to edit new videos and is also taught at dozens of top journalism schools.



Former MSJ graduate and coach, Brain Grady '75, will be coaching  the 2016 Vermont Shrine Team. This will be Grady's seventh time participating in the Shrine games and second time as a head coach. When he last was head coach for the Shrine Team, he had a number of Mountie players and broke many records that still stand.

MSJ Class of 1966 Golden Graduation & 50th Reunion!!
June 3rd and June 4th, 2016: Golden graduates are invited to attend the 2016 MSJ commencement ceremony on Friday at 6PM, where they will be presented with Golden Diplomas. Plans are to meet casually on Friday following the graduation, with a more formal event planned for Saturday. Watch your mail for more information regarding the reunion weekend from Chairmen Gale Licausi and Helen Kinsman.
