NEWS

 Lenny Burke Court Unveiled! 
Please join us for the debut of the brand new Lenny Burke Basketball Court. There will be a men's and women's basketball scrimmage versus Rice Memorial High School along with a ceremonial thanking of donors and blessing of the court by the Bishop. The event will take place Monday, November 30th starting at 5pm at the Martin McDonough Gymnasium here at Convent Avenue. All are welcome to attend!!


The Vermont Diocese announced the formation of a digital catholic school. Starting in September 2016, students throughout the state will have the opportunity to obtain a catholic school education; there will be one class a week online."We're trying to be innovative through things like digital schools, online schools; a digital catholic school is in the works." -Bishop Christopher Coyne.
 
STUDENT NEWS

MSJ Student Nominated for Football Honor! 
Jonah Farrow has been nominated for the annual "PRIDE of Vermont High School Football" award. This trophy is sponsored by the SB Dolphins' Football Foundation and is made possible by a donation from the Johnson Family in memory of their son, Chris Johnson, a former player with the South Burlington Dolphins' youth football team. The motto of the Dolphin team and Foundation is PRIDE - Personal Responsibility for Individual Daily Effort. Congrats, Jonah!

MVL All-Stars Named for Women's Soccer!  
The team had another great season, winning the John Werner tournament for the third year in a row, and making the playoff semifinals before it fell to the eventual champion. Congrats to Mounties Jenna Eaton, Charlotte Hudson, Bryn McClallen, and Monica Schmelzenbach! Erin McClallen was an MVL honorable mention in her first year playing soccer for the Mount!  

Cross Country Team Wins Championship! 
MSJ in October had a strong showing in the MVL championship. Coach Matt Potter proudly states "Everyone was ready for the challenge. It was very apparent in their performances." The only Mountie female runner, Amy Nichols, finished 3rd in her race! Congrats to Josh Williams, Lucas Pencak, Sam Farrow, Rain He, William Li, and Dylan Potter!






Mounties Received Prestigious Award!
The Vermont Sports Media Association only gives out this award to one male and one female athlete in the state each month. Sally Hogan ('15) female athlete of the month for July for her MVP Twin State Basketball Performance. Bryn McClallen ('17) won the same honor in August for her soccer accomplishments.

Bowl for Martha's Barn
November 14th 12-4pm

Kathleen Burke Kourebanas ('86), started a charity that supports autism called Martha's Barn in honor of her daughter. Their first event will be at the Rutland Bowlerama. Register at www.marthasbarnvt.com or call (802) 578-5460.




Play 110 
November 20th at 7:30pm
November 21st at 2pm and 7:30pm
MSJ Drama will be featuring a play about September 11th this month. The story centers on the experience of first responders and others who witnessed the events first hand. As a way of saying "thank you" for all that they do for our community; EMT's, firefighters, and police officers who show their credentials at the door, will be admitted for free. Admission for adults will be $6 and $3 for students and seniors.

 
ALUMNI AND FRIENDS

Coach Greg McClallen ('60) referred to as the "Dean of Vermont Ski Racing" has been teaching and coaching for 36 years at the Rutland High School. His teams have secured 17 State Championship titles for Rutland High School and in 1987 McClallen was named the National High School Coach of the Year. In 2008 Greg McClallen was the Eastern Alpine Official of the Year as well as the VARA Alpine Official of the Year; he was also inducted into the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum Hall of Fame.

Brent Garrow ('04), was named a local hero by former brother firefighters for his service within the community. After 6 years of service Brent Garrow is placing his dreams and career on hold due to a hereditary kidney disease. Mark Foley Jr ('85) was named Business person of the year by the Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce on October 28th 2015. Foley is the owner of Foley Services and MKF Properties. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Rutland Economic Development Corporation, the Vermont Business Roundtable, and president of the Paramount Theater Board of Directors.

MSJ Class of 1966 Golden Graduation & 50th Reunion!!
June 3rd and June 4th 2016: Golden graduates are invited to attend the 2016 MSJ commencement ceremony Friday at 6PM, where will be presented with Golden Diplomas. Plans are to meet casually on Friday following the graduation, with a more formal event planned for Saturday June 4.  Watch your mail for more information regarding the reunion weekend from Chairmen Gale Licausi and Helen Kinsman.
