NEWS
MSJ Class of 2015 received an average of $46,000 in scholarships!
The members of the class of 2015 received a total of $5,986,652.00 in scholarships from colleges and universities, which translates to an average of $11,590.21 per year per institution! This does not include federal aid, state aid, work study, loans, or local scholarships. Beyond the financial advantages of an MSJ education, there are many other benefits, such as the ability to play on champion sports teams, a state of the art computer lab, small class sizes, and an individualized and caring faculty. Congratulations graduates on these impressive scholarships -- and kudos parents for investing in an MSJ education!

MSJ Needs You!
Each year, MSJ welcomes international and diversity high school students to attend our school. These are outstanding young people who were interviewed and selected to study at MSJ. They are hard working in school, and eager to experience what it's like to be a high school student in Vermont. Sharing daily life with a teenager from another culture is a rich and rewarding experience, and is a wonderful way for you and your family to bring more understanding into the world.
MSJ's international program helps to support MSJ's budget, and the students who come for an education, in turn, enrich our community's worldview, and help us to appreciate all that our educational system offers. If you host a student for MSJ the school will support you, and your hosted student, throughout your experience, and help you both receive the most from your time together. MSJ provides a stipend, to help defray the costs of housing the student. The student will come with their own health insurance and personal spending money, for wants and incidentals (ex: school supplies). The host family provides a bed, meals and transportation for the student, but most importantly, you should be eager and excited to share your life and activities while providing the same kind of care, support, and comfort as you would to your own child or family members. MSJ welcomes all kinds of families.
MSJ needs 8-10 families to host students. This year MSJ will host 4 students from Haiti, 4 from China, and 2 from New York City. If you decide to host you'll build bridges of intercultural understanding. It's a gift you'll give and receive. Most families have no idea how much they'll gain until they say yes!

ALUMNI AND FRIENDS
Cassidy Elected President of Uniform Law Commission
Richard Cassidy (MSJ '71) is the newly elected President of the Uniform Law Commission. He is the first Vermonter to be elected to this office since almost ninety years ago! Congratulations, Rich!
Political Strategist Sarah Crawford Stewart ('95) Interviewed on NH Public Radio- MSJ alum Sarah Crawford Stewart was asked to share some some of her insights on the New Hampshire Primary in a New Hampshire Public Radio Story.
John W. Valente ('84) Appointed to the Superior Court Bench- Following in the footsteps of his father, Judge Silvio Valente ('45), John Valente was recently appointed a Vermont Superior Court Judge.
Lenny Burke Court to Become A Reality- In December, MSJ organized a wonderful night at the Paramount Theatre in honor of Lenny Burke ('81) and his family. Lenny was tragically injured in an MSJ basketball game in 1979, but his family, led by his mother Emmie, with support from the MSJ community, and the Rutland community as a whole, helped him through that difficult time. The lessons learned about head injury not only helped Lenny but have been shared with the world to help others. Under the direction of Mrs. Burke and Lenny's brother Kevin Burke ('81), The Lenny Burke Farm and associated properties in Rutland County have become a bright light for those with head injuries from all over the country. This inspirational story has been captured in "The Bend in the Road," a book by Yvonne Daley, which provided the focus for the wonderful evening in December. That night MSJ announced that it was starting a Burke family scholarship at MSJ, and that MSJ also intended to refinish the basketball court and name it after Lenny. Three MSJ alums (Jimmy Clifford of Clifford's funeral home, Brian Godnick of Godnick's Grand Furniture, and Skip Practico of Pratico's Landscaping) generously said that they would match a total of $7,500 towards the Lenny Burke Court, if we could raise that amount at the Honor Our Past event. The attendees at Honor Our Past responded by pledging over $9,000 in less than 10 minutes! Due to these generous donations, the Lenny Burke Court will be here in time for this winter's basketball season! Thanks to all who have supported this effort! For information about donating to the Burke Family Scholarship, please contact kbove@msjvermont.org or momalley@msjvermont.org.
