Nationally Recognized Service Project Continues in Its Fourth Decade

For over forty years, MSJ students, faculty/staff, parents, alumni and friends have planned and executed Project Help, a program that provides Christmas baskets for some of the neediest families in the Rutland region. Project Help is slated for December 18th and 19th. MSJ students and volunteers collect food and monetary donations from area residents and businesses on Thursday, December 18th. The students will then deliver the gift baskets to local families on Friday, December 19th. If you would like to volunteer, make a food or monetary donation, or if you have any questions, please contact Principal Fortier at sfortier@msjvermont.org. Students knock on most Rutland City doors, but if you live in a remote area or outside the city and wish to contribute gifts or donations, you may drop off your offerings at the MSJ main office, during school hours, on Wednesday, December 17th.

Mountie Winter Sports Preview

We are very happy to welcome two great, new coaches to the MSJ community: Coach Dave Randall as the new Varsity Boys Basketball Coach and Coach Mike McIssac as the Junior Varsity Coach. We anxiously await the boys' first game of the season, which will take place at home on Friday, December 5th at 5:30pm and 7:30pm against Bellows Falls! It is sure to be an exciting season! The Varsity Girls Team is also back in full swing under the watchful eye of Head Coach Dan Elliott and Assistant Coaches Bill Bruso and Aaron Eaton. Their season is sure to be a memorable one, as the girls made it to the Finals last year before falling to the Proctor Phantoms. Their opening game will take place on December 9th at 7pm at Green Mountain. Good luck, girls! The Indoor Track team also welcomes a new coach, Mike Callahan. Stay tuned for more information about their meets!

A Word from Senior Kyle Diezel

MSJ's Corporate Internship Program is a lot of fun. It allows you to explore the field that you may be interested in entering after high school. I volunteer at Back on Track with Kate and Lyndsy where I am able to explore a typical day as a physical therapist. They show me how to treat each patient depending on the injury and also teach me about the business aspect of the job. I enjoy meeting new people and watching them progress over time as they eventually get better. I wish I had more time to spend there because I have learned so much about the exciting world of physical therapy!
