The Statistics Speak for Themselves: MSJ Offers a Superior Education!

This past year, the MSJ students who took the ACT in English Literature scored a 100%. In other words, they could not have scored higher on this national test used to evaluate students during the college admissions process! This speaks volumes about the education available at MSJ. In addition, every student in the Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus class passed the AP exam in that subject, and the AP English and AP US History students had a combined passage rate of over 80%! Students who passed received college credit at no additional cost. These statistics show that MSJ students are often scholastically superior to many of their peers.

STUDENT NEWS
Meet the Mini Mounties!
This season, the MSJ cheerleaders and their coach, Tracy Tedesco, have decided to incorporate a Mini Mounties cheer squad. The Mini Mounties are younger girls in our community that have an interest in cheering. It is a lot of fun to work with these beautiful young girls; we have all created budding friendships with the Mini Mounties and opened doors to new activities for them. The MSJ cheerleaders look forward to working with the Mini Mounties every Friday. So far, they have joined the MSJ cheerleaders at the Walk for Alzheimer's event and two football games. The MSJ cheerleaders are all so excited that they will be cheering together at the Mounties' last home game and evening pep rally!
Women's Soccer Team Wins John Werner Tournament
In what the Bennington Banner predicted "very well may" be a preview of the Division IV state championship game, the lady Mounties defeated Arlington 1-0 with a last-second goal in double overtime, to win the John Werner Tournament - for the second year in a row! The goal-scoring star of the game is Jenna Eaton, whose grandfather was former MSJ teacher and coach Bill Eaton. Read more here.
Men's Football Team Continues to Show Improvement Each Week
Under new coach Phil Hall, the MSJ men's football team has shown vast improvement over last season. The offense has consistently been putting points on the scoreboard. Last week, MSJ traveled to U-32, and the radio announcer who covered the game in the Montpelier area indicated that he was very impressed by the Mounties. It is a rebuilding year, but the program is making great strides.
Host Families Needed!
Consider hosting an MSJ international student for the 2015 Spring semester, and receive $2,500 off your 2015-2016 school year tuition. Hosting an international exchange student can be an enriching experience for the entire family. By opening your home and heart to a student from overseas, your family will gain a new global perspective, many memories, and quite possibly a new family member! Please contact Carrie Savage at csavage@msjvermont.org, or call (802) 775-0151.

ALUMNI AND FRIENDS
Legendary MSJ football coach Alphonso "Funzie" Cioffi, Sr. ('48) passed away on October 1st. He coached football at MSJ from 1956 to 1989, won 11 state championships, and was Vermont's most beloved football coach.
Travis Lazarczyk ('90), a sports writer in Maine, recently wrote a well-received column criticizing unsportsmanlike cheering at high school events. Travis has been known to fondly recollect his experience at MSJ in his columns.
Jim Simonds ('71) recently retired as Building Inspector and Zoning Administrator for the City of Rutland after many years of service to the City. Best wishes to Jim in his retirement!
Sarah Crawford Stewart ('95) and her husband Christopher welcomed two daughters, Macy Lou and Katie, into the world on September 29, 2014. Sarah is not the only mother of twins in her class; she joins her classmates Jamie (Brisbin) Kelly ('95) and Melanie (Notte) Lotto ('95) in that category.
Boston Children's Hospital profiled Anne Marie Valente, MD ('88) in this video. She is one of a large number of female doctors who have graduated from the Mount.
