MSJ Senior Claire Schmelzenbach Receives Appointment to West Point

RUTLAND, VERMONT- Mount Saint Joseph Academy (MSJ) Senior Claire Schmelzenbach has received an appointment to the United States Military Academy. She intends to attend this historic institution, often referred to as "West Point." Miss Schmelzenbach was previously nominated by members of Vermont's congressional delegation for a number of military academies. Like the other Vermonters nominated, she then had to wait to see if she would receive an "appointment," which is equivalent to admission.  West Point was her top choice-and she has now received the coveted appointment. "This is a tremendous honor, of which Miss Schmelzenbach, her family, and Christ the King School and Mount Saint Joseph Academy should be very proud," said Navy Vice Admiral (Retired) Barry Costello who, like Miss Schmelzenbach, is an alum of Christ the King School (CKS) and MSJ. Miss Schmelzenbach is the President of the MSJ student government, and leads the MSJ social justice committee and the choir. She has consistently been an honor roll student throughout her high school career. She plays multiple sports, including soccer, basketball, and track.  So far this year, she has been an integral part of the very successful MSJ soccer team and a key member of the currently undefeated MSJ basketball team. Claire Schmelzenbach is the daughter of Thomas and Jeanne Schmelzenbach. Her sister, Monica, is also a student at MSJ, and her brother Luke attends CKS.

MSJ- Rutland Provides Another Exciting Game- There was a packed house at MSJ for the first matchup of the season between the Mountie men's basketball team and the Rutland Raiders.  The lead changed hands until RHS pulled ahead for good during the fourth quarter.  The Mounties' performance showed, however, that they have what it takes to defeat their cross-town rivals.  Please come support the Green Wave at the rematch next Monday night, February 10th, at the Keefe Gym! Check out the unexpected guest at yesterday's game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTK7IgorMrY
