STUDENT NEWSCollege scholarships flow in! Again this year, MSJ seniors are receiving massive amounts of scholarships and grants from some of the nation's best colleges and universities! The MSJ class of 2013 has a total scholarship amount of $2,153,230! The average amount per MSJ student is $97,000 in college scholarship! Graduation Ceremonies
Graduation ceremonies will be held on Friday, June 7th @ 6:00pm in St. Peter Church.
Valedictorian
Leonard Wing Bartenstein, son of Claus and Trish Wing Bartenstein ('82) of Rutland, serves as the Student Government President of Mount Saint Joseph Academy and is a member of the Josephite Chapter of the National Honor Society, the Shoestring Theater Company Drama Club and the MSJ Concert Band. Leonard has played Varsity Football all four years of high school; appointed Captain during his senior year, and has been a member of the Golf team since 9th grade. He is a Lector at Christ the King Church in Rutland and has compiled hundreds of hours of community service throughout his four years at MSJ. Leonard is also part of MSJ's Student Life Organization, and has served as a Student Ambassador and a guide for new and prospective students and families through all four years of high school, was a Green Mountain Boys' State Delegate in 2012. Leonard is Mount Saint Joseph Academy's Class of 2013 University of Vermont Green and Gold Scholar and will attend UVM this fall to study English Literature and Education.
Salutatorian 
Matthew Thomas Sanborn, son of William ('78) and Christine Sanborn of Rutland, is a member of Mount Saint Joseph Academy's Student Government, serving as Junior Class president last year and secretary during his freshman and sophomore years. He is a member of Student Life, the Josephite Chapter of the National Honor Society, a participant in the school's Scholar' Bowl Club, musician in the Concert Band and the Choir, as well as a "Sole" of the Shoestring Theater Company Drama Club. He is captain of the Varsity Baseball team as well as the Boys Varsity Basketball team, leading the team to their 2011-2012 Vermont State Basketball Division II Championship. Throughout his high school career, Matthew has earned eleven Varsity letters, been a consistent three + three scholar athlete and has served as a Lector, Student Ambassador and Tour Guide as well as a Green Mountain Boys' State Delegate.Matthew plans to study Business in the Honors Program at Providence this fall.
Veritas et Puritas Award Winner
Abigail Grace Harvey, daughter of Mary Lou Tedesco Harvey ('83) and Robert Harvey of West Rutland, is the 2013 recipient of the Mt. St. Joseph Academy Veritas et Puritas award. Abigail is amember of the Josephite Chapter of the National Honor Society, The Shoestring Theater Company, the MSJ Student Government, and a three + three scholar athlete. In recognition of Abigail's strong and vibrant Catholic faith, strong academic performance, consistent respect afforded to others, as well as a deep concern for her fellow students and school community, the MSJ community is proud to award Abigail the Veritas et Puritas in recognition for her outstanding character and service to others. Abigail will attend St. Michael's College in the fall and plans on pursuing a degree in Biology/Pre Medicine.
MSJ Sophomores Accepted into Governor's Institute Summer Programs
Peter Bauman, Joseph Loveland and Joshua Wasilewski, will each be participating in a week long Governor's Institute of Vermont Summer Institute. They will be taking part in what has been described as fun, accelerated learning residencies on college campuses for highly-motivated Vermont teenagers. Bauman will attend the Information Technology Institute at Champlain College and Wasilewski and Loveland will study Engineering at UVM this summer.
There are eight different Governor's Institutes focused on Arts, Engineering, Information Technology, Environmental Science and Technology, Mathematics, Asian Cultures, and Current Issues and Youth Activism - plus in 2013, a Special Interdisciplinary Institute on Farms, Food and Your Future. Any talented Vermont student can ask his/her school guidance counselor for referral to a Governor's Institute for an unforgettable experience of extreme learning and extreme fun. Creative Writing Campfrom June 24th-28th at MSJ from 12pm-4pm for Grades 6-10.
A "Coffee House" reading will take place on Friday at 4:00 pm for $90 with Mrs. Jessica Bride Audette.
Theater Camp from July 29th-August 2nd at MSJ from 12pm-4pm for Grades 5-11 for $100 with Mrs. Jessica Bride Audette.

Annual Student Art Exhibition
The Chaffee Art Center hosted the much anticipated Annual Student Art Exhibit from May 3rd through the 26th, 2013. MSJ was represented by four of our student artists. Emma Shouldice, Hannah Farrow, Sally Hogan and Bethany Miglorie, all displayed their work at the Chaffee Downtown Gallery.

SPRING SPORTS
2013 Track Statistics!
The MSJ team had 16 of our 20 person team qualify for the VT State meet, and 5 qualified for the New England Qualifier! There were new MSJ school records for: Girls 4 x 100- 55.53 Migolorie, A and B Schmelzenbach C and M; Boys 4 x 800- 9 ;49.73 Perry, D., Smith, S., Corlew, D. and Diezel, K; 100 meter record tied - 11.7 h Diezel, D. (Jamie Larson 2001); 400 meter girls-1:04.3 h Schmelzenbach, M; 800 meters- 2:33.4 Schmelzenbach, C. Congrats to a great team and great year!
The MSJ baseball team continues to win!
Congrats to the Mountie baseball team, who defeated previously unbeaten Otter Valley on May 20th! The Mountie men, who made it to Centennial Field for the state championship last year, look like a championship contender again this year!

UPCOMING EVENTS
Honor Our Past - July 25th, 2013
The Fifth Annual Honor Our Past event, to benefit Rutland Catholic Schools, will be held on July 25, 2013 at the Mountain Top Inn. Cocktails will be served at 6pm, followed by dinner at 7pm. Tickets are $75.00 per person.
This year we will be honoring Michael McCormack ('69) for his commitment to both MSJ and CKS as well as to the greater Rutland area through his generous gift of service. Our unsung heroes will be the Les ('50) and Barbara ('48) Eno, and their sons Edward ('75) and Joe ('74) for their untiring volunteerism and commitment to the students of MSJ and CKS. We will present a new award, the Rutland Cathollic Schools Spirit Award, to the Dr. David (deceased) and Paulie Austin family, including Dr. Judy Austin Strohbehn ('80), Bonnie Austin, J.D. ('82), Bridget Austin-Denhoy ('83), David Austin ('86), and Father Luke Austin, J.D. ('94).

1963 Reunion and Golden Graduation! MSJ will host the Class of 1963 for their Golden Graduation at this year's MSJ commencement ceremony on Friday, June 7 at St. Peter's Church at 6:00pm. The Class has plans for other graduation activities during the weekend, if you have not heard from the reunion organizers, please contact Kathy Bove in the MSJ Development office (802) 775-0151.
1967 Reunion! The Class of 1967 is planning a reunion for the weekend of August 23rd and 24th. There will be a get-together on Friday evening, August 23rd, details to follow. On Saturday morning, August 24th there will be a Mass at St. Peter's Church at 9:30am for our deceased classmates and a tour of MSJ will follow. The evening celebration will be at the Summit Lodge in Killington.
