MEET THE FACULTY AND STAFF

MSJ Spanish Teacher

This academic year, Montserrat Mochn has started working for MSJ as the Spanish teacher.  She studied Hispanic Philology in her native country, Spain, and earned her doctorate degree here in the States, specializing in the Spanish Golden Age.  She has been living in Vermont for a number of years with her husband and son and loves the beauty of the state, especially in spring and autumn.  She says of herself that she has become a sort of Vermonter (her accent might betray this), but due to her deep love for her country and culture she cultivates and maintains many of her Iberian traditions here. Her nine-year-old boy, Alejandro, is bilingual and bicultural and adores spending time with his large Spanish family during summer vacations.

MSJ STUDENT PERFORMED IN OPERA THEATRE

MSJ student, Claire Mercier, appeared in Opera Theatre of Weston's production of Noye's Fludde (Noah's Flood) by Benjamin Britten in early January.  Claire performed the lead youth role of Mrs.Jaffett, wife of one of Noah's sons.  This production reached new heights as the majority of the cast consisted of local youngsters taking the parts of Noah's sons and their wives as well as the animal chorus.

SPRING ONE ACT PLAY

MSJ's one act play, Irene, written by director Jennifer Bagley, is based on the "story circle" accounts by Vermonters about their experiences with tropical storm Irene in 2011.  Vermont Folklife visited many of the hardest hit towns after Irene, and using their oral history sound equipment, recorded the eye witness narratives in the hardest hit towns throughout the state.  Irene is based on accounts mainly from Mendon and Rochester, and tells the story through the actual words of Vermonters about how the state reacted to and recovered from the devastation.  The play will be one of five high school one acts performed at MSJ at the drama festival they are hosting on Saturday, March 23rd.  A public evening performance is scheduled for Wednesday, April 3rd, where we have invited a wide range of local Vermonters who were so instrumental in the recovery efforts.
