NAMI California Priority Bills

NAMI California Action Alert: Support SB 22 Now!

SB 330 Amended
Now this bill would require, during the next revision of the publication "Health Framework for California Public Schools," the newly created Instructional Quality Commission to CONSIDER developing, and recommending for adoption by the state board, a distinct category on mental health instruction, as described, to educate pupils about all aspects of mental health. NAMI California worked with the author to develop the language for the original bill and to pass it through committees. We do NOT support weakening the bill.

Medi-Cal Expansion as part of Affordable Care Act

The expansion is more important and probably complicated than we thought. "Every county in California saw an increase from 2007 to 2009 in the number of people living under 133% of the Federal Poverty Level relative to those living above it." Watch this column for updates and advocacy alerts.

Affordable Care Act

Enrollment in ACA plans begins October 1 and coverage begins January 1, 2014.  However, all surveys and studies show that people do not understand Obamacare or many of the basic concepts of health insurance.  It is up to advocates to share information that will help people become insured.

Advocacy at National Level

Calls needed: advocate for full funding of housing programs for people living with serious mental illness! If you are visiting your senator during the summer break, please include this action.
