Religious Exploration
View schedule here. Nursery care to age 3 held in Room 114 at Oakton Elementary.
June's worship theme is Rhythm. "... [T]he earlier bards and minstrels knew ... the close connection between music and religion. Both have at their heart rhythm. To move with this is to be in tune, literally, with one's self and the world; to lose it is to get cross-grained, to find alienation and disharmony." - from Every Earthly Blessing: Rediscovering the Celtic Tradition by Esther de Waal
|
recipient for June is Globe Aware's Romania project. Donations fund volunteer projects that improve living conditions for residents of Brasov, Romania, who live in poverty - particularly the marginalized ethnic Roma population.

Our next deadline is Tue., Jul. 1. Send announcements to our communications staff. All entries are edited before publication for brevity, clarity and style.

Jun. 29 worship service and RE
10 a.m., Oakton Elementary School |
Rev. Laura Horton-Ludwig
|
Rev. Laura Horton-Ludwig will be preaching this weekend and the title of her sermon is No Effort Required. Summer is here. The rhythm of the year invites us into a quieter mode - time to rest and refresh, if we can, to resist the call to be "on" all the time. Judy Harrison, former Director of Music at UUCF, will be playing the piano at the service. Religious Exploration classes will meet in classrooms on Sunday. Please follow the signs to the classrooms for your child's age group. Nursery will be in Room 114.

This week & weekend
Ball-point pen collection. Sun., Jul. 13, at the 10 a.m. service. The 2s & 3s Summer RE class will collect new or used ball-point pens for Pens for Kids International, a group that sends pens to classrooms in Africa. According to Pens for Kids, in the countries it services like Kenya, "a simple pen is a significant expense for underprivileged parents - often equal to a day's earnings." Every single pen counts; if each congregant brings just one pen, we will meet our goal! Help us get the word out about summer meeting locations. Is your group continuing to meet over the summer? Please email Sarah Creel in Communications with your announcements, including location, so she can include accurate information in our email announcements and insert. Remember, the deadline is Tuesday of each week. Thank you! Meditation Practice Group. Tue., Jul. 1, 7 p.m., Room 3, Unity Church. Join us in supporting each other in our meditation practice. No expectation to attend every meeting. Contact Karen Monroe. Summer worship volunteers needed. Almost all the welcomer slots have been filled but we still need a few more ushers later in the summer. To sign up, please use this link or email Mary Foster.
