I couldn't stop smiling this weekend! Everywhere I looked there were groups of children and teachers laughing, playing, getting to know one another and enthusiastically introducing the concepts and themes for the year. Classes were scattered all over the campus and could be found by following sounds of laughter. One kindergartner put it this way, "It was really good. It was the goodest class of all the classes we ever had at church ... We're learning about each other!"
A high schooler gushed that it was great because the youth really led the discussions - from determining how they wanted to connect with worship services and have their classes work to the ever-important snack calendar. Our "Coming of Age" class has almost 20 youth Grades 9-10. They will be looking to members and friends of UUCF to be their individual mentors. If you are asked by one of them, please say "yes!" I think you will find the experience rewarding. More than 80 teachers and greeters attended workshops themselves this year to learn how to build more physical activity and social justice learning into our classes as well as opportunities for our children to build friendships and explore their own spirituality and UU identity. You could see them putting these concepts to work over the weekend, as many teachers took their classes outside and got the children moving as they learned! I go to sleep at night feeling blessed ... with our enthusiastic and dedicated teachers, our energetic children and our UUCF community that places such emphasis on providing wonderful space, resources and care for our children and youth programming. Thank you to our beloved UUCF community! Warmly, Linnea
