I wish you could see your faces! I'll tell you the truth, I was a little nervous about the whole thing. And the response I've gotten from some has confirmed my hesitation. "Superheroes?!" "What are you talking about?"

As I said in a previous blog, we are going to work with a superhero theme this year: "Superpowers to Bless the World." The idea isn't to look to the few for our hope. The hope is that each of us can find our own unique "superpower" and offer it to the work of transforming ourselves, our community and the world.  
So as you are considering your costume for Ingathering, (you are considering a costume, right?), I encourage you to get creative. There may be some character in comic books or television or movies that you just love. You can dress like them or just wear a nametag if you like. Or, you might want to invent your own superhero. I'm coming as "The Transformer." Not because I'm the one at UUCF doing the transforming - but as a nod to the mission we share.

All of this requires imagination, a willingness to be a little playful, a passion to have fun in the midst of very serious work. If you're still skeptical, I get it. I promise this year we will, as always, be talking together about serious issues.  We will struggle together with how to live well in the face of personal demons.  We will ask the hard questions - questions about evil and goodness. We will share tools we've discovered that help us be our best. Capes and wooden stakes not required.
