Creating sacred space
 |
Associate Minister Rev. Laura Horton-Ludwig
| Dear UUCF family, I hope to see you at worship services this weekend. We have some fantastic music lined up: Dick Neff and his bluegrass Higher Ground String Band. And I'll be talking about our attachment to special places, and how hard it can be to be part of a mobile society that teaches us not to get attached to place. Middle-class American culture tells us we should be geographically mobile - that we should always be willing to move, for our jobs and careers, for our families. It's not a bad thing but it comes at a cost. It may feel like we're asked to ignore and disregard our love for particular places, our longing to be in a place that feels like home. So how can we create a sense of sacred space and love for the place we are now?
If you are in town, or passing through, or here to stay ... we look forward to seeing you!
Warmly, Laura

Get the "blues"
Join the chair beautification team
  |
Volunteer leader Judy Gallimore, at right, works on the chairs with other volunteers at least twice a week.
|
Our Sanctuary is a little two-tone these days as volunteers are turning our chairs from green to blue. They're sprucing up the tired wood and reupholstering the seats and backs. Project coordinator, Judy Gallimore, and her small-but-dedicated team have been at this task at least twice a week all summer and they've finished almost half the chairs. They could really use your help to get all of the chairs finished by Ingathering on Sep. 7.
If you can help, please email Judy or stop by the table in the Commons after services.

Have you heard about the adventures of the Tacky Traveling Toilet? The 4s&5s summer RE class decorated a toilet that, for any size donation, will go wherever you want it to go. Proceeds fund clean water for five families in Africa through The Water Project. This Saturday, the toilet will be at the Fairfax Corner's Fountain, 10:30 am-noon. It's a great way for kids to see and think about our use of clean water and the struggles people face elsewhere.
