Can you help out with
cash flow this summer?

This time of year, cash gets a little tight at UUCF. Those of you who schedule your contributions monthly or quarterly provide a strong regular financial base for UUCF operations.

For those who pay your pledges annually or in lump sums, please consider paying all or part of your July 2013-June 2014 pledge in July to help maintain good cash flow over the lean summer months. And, if you haven't yet completed your pledge for the fiscal year ending Jun., 30, 2013, and are able to pay the balance, doing that in July would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

This week & weekend
All activities are open to all unless otherwise listed.

Children raise awareness of global water issues with "Tacky Traveling Toilet." UUCF's 4s&5s RE class created this work of art to fund a year's supply of clean water for one family in Africa through The Water Project. The toilet has met its original  $115 goal, so the class now wants to fund clean water for four families - with a goal of $460. You can pay to have this work of art placed anywhere this summer (and we mean anywhere). A neighbor's yard? UUCF office? Favorite shopping center? Any donation will make this toilet travel. If you see it around (maybe in the Commons this weekend!), please lift the lid and donate or click here to make a donation online. Once  you've donated, let Suzanne Leonard know where you'd like the toilet delivered.

NAMI Family Support Meeting. Thu., Jul. 11 (rescheduled from Jul. 4.), 7:30-9 p.m., Program Building. Support meeting for families with a loved one suffering from mental illness. Contact Joanna Walker.

Live our commitment to the UUCF Gun Violence Prevention Congregational Resolution. Join our vigil this Sunday at NRA headquarters. Sun., Jul. 14, 2-3 p.m., 11250 Waples Mill Rd., Fairfax. Vigils are being held on the 14th of each month to commemorate the tragedy in Newtown, CT, last Dec. 14. Signs are provided. Parking on nearby side streets. Questions to Bob Hatfield or Jerry Poje.

Meditation Practice Group. Tue., Jul. 16, 7-8:30 p.m., Chapel. Join us in supporting each other in our meditation practice. No expectation to attend every meeting. Contact Karen Monroe.

Wednesday Morning Book Club. Jul. 17, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., Program Building. This month reading "East of the Mountains," by David Guterson. Questions to Polly Feuer.

UUCF members/friends invited to Iftar dinner. Wed., Jul. 17, 8 p.m., Institute for Islamic and Turkish Studies (IITS). The IITS invites UUCF to an Iftar dinner at which their members break their fast during Ramadan. In addition to conversing with individual members, there will be a Q&A about Islamic practices and matters of faith. This is a great chance to gain a better understanding of Islam and broaden our relationships with other faith-based communities. Space is limited. To request invitations, contact Rod Paolini. Please indicate whether you'd like to carpool.

Register for fall RE - one time for all children and youth. Why register now? We make class lists and schedule classes based on the number of children in each class. Do you miss the family retreat? Let's bring it back! Sep. 1. Join us after the last day of summer RE in the beautiful Shenandoah National Park. Join us for just the hike or stay for the night and "retreat" with other families. Reserve your campsite or a lodge room or cabin at Big Meadows for Sun., Sep. 1. Some people are camping Aug. 30 and 31, too! Let Katherine Riddle know if you'd like to join us for the hike, the one-night stay or for the whole weekend. She will get you the necessary release, answer your questions and send more info as it becomes available.
