Tip of the Month
ABCs of Hearing & Hearing Loss
ABC Blocks
As a screening team member helping to identify children who need further hearing assessment, you'll find it helpful to become familiar with the basics of how the ear works as well as with the terms that hearing specialists use to categorize and describe hearing problems.  In a previous newsletter, a discussion about Types of Hearing Loss was introduced.

To further expand your understanding and to answer additional questions, we've recorded a Hearing Loss in  Young Children webinar that provides more detailed information.  The 45-minute webinar covers topics such as:
  • Anatomy of the ear
  • Types of hearing loss
  • Degrees of hearing loss
  • How hearing specialists (audiologists)
summarize information about a child's hearing
    on an audiogram
  • Simulation of a hearing loss
  • Roles that Early Head Start staff can play in ensuring that children with hearing loss are well served and appropriately included

You can watch the webinar at your convenience and pass the link along to others you know who could also benefit from it.
